Asper
The year is 1980 and we are in London. Augments are marginalized humans with special powers.
Asper is a fugitive who has just escaped from the military after spending her youth as a child soldier because she was an augment ward of the state. Having not lived on her own before, she struggles against her conditioning and institutionalisation to survive. While squatting in Elephant and Castle, half-dead from exposure and starvation, she is offered sanctuary by the terrorist group Northrend.
Northrend are an anarchist group fighting for augment rights led by Severin, a mythically powerful refugee who has fled the Mozambican Civil War. Half of the members want to end humanity, the other half want to reconcile with it. Things get even more complicated when Yuri arrives, a human Soviet ambassador offering them asylum in the purportedly more tolerant USSR if they commit espionage and terrorist work on behalf of the KGB. Torn between duty and a fledgeling romance with the chemically-suppressed wealthy telepath hostage Clara, Asper has to find a way to make her mark on the world while avoiding Severin's grim designs for humanity.
