I'd love to help! This is how I do design creation and anatomy:
Use reference!! I know that sounds like a no brainer, but reference and the more you use, the more accurate you can capture the pose or facial features. I also like to look at artists I love and see how they draw certain aspects like hair, blush, lighting, noses, ect! Just be careful not to copy or heavily inspire someone if they are uncomfortable with it. Keep practicing and practicing until you think that you got it down pat.
Another things I really strive for is not falling into the "same- face syndrome" hole, and I use shapes to push anatomy and style. Examples would be like a pear shaped head and oval eyes, or a boxy head with small sharp triangular eyes. Use all types of shapes and don't be afraid to experiment. Some designs might turn out bad or you might run out of steam, but you learn alot along the way! I also advise looking at character creation videos or animation/character portfolios and see how others push their style and uniqueness into their creations.
