Revolutsiya

this story is set in the small, industrial town of anastomosis -- commonly abbreviated to ana, by those who know her well. a river runs through her center, dividing ana into two separate halves. while the north is dominated by a mill built and controlled by the bishop corporation, the rooks that enforce their control reside largely within the rookery in the south, closer to the heart of the town itself. trains will occasionally stop at her dilapidated station; passengers will rarely do the same.

on the summer and winter solstices of every year, the town holds the summer and winter pyres. every resident burns something that they value and promises to let go of something they regret; the ashes are allowed to either flow down the river or disappear into the wind. on these days, the summer thunderstorms burn thick with heat. the winter sleet stains the stone roads in black.

revolutsiya is divided into three acts: the revolution, the revelation, and the rapture. it is centered around a cast of five characters who will set a fire that burns them alive -- unaided by the mystical dancers that seem to predict their every move, of course. when the academic arrives on that morning train, the web he casts out will rope the weaver into his plans; the sculptor will try to hold him back, the urchin will try to urge him on, and the physician will pretend that he can ignore the smell of rising smoke. the stage is set -- they'll pay their debts -- so dance along, alone or well-met.
