Nexus Dragons

Nexus Dragon Cyberpet Adoptables FAQ/RULES

What are Nexus dragons?

  • Nexus dragons are sentient, draconic creatures that are hybrids of many different original species. Back from 2004-2012 they were found on yahoo groups and forums, freely drawn and traded via organized WTA competitions. They were loosely based on Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series, but many semi-open species cross-breedings and clutches have resulted in a huge variety of critters!
  • Different owners of Nexus dragons exist across the internet, with different rules for their particular designs. Mine come in two 'breeds': "Bower" and "Nidus Corona". Both are uber-mutts, but Bower breeds tend to be darker and edgier, and Nidus Corona breeds tend to be optimistic.
What do I do with mine?
  • At the bare minimum, stick them on the page with the stats they came with!
  • You can write stories, draw more pictures, or choose another acceptable dragon character to breed yours with--and draw the offspring to adopt out, if you like! Please keep their basic stats intact--they are inherited traits from many generations of selective breeding.
  • NOTE: You may NOT sell your Nexus dragon designed by dray for real or virtual currency. If you breed yours and draw the offspring, you may gift/trade/sell your own drawings. Please give me a shout if you do! I'd like to see the results. I suggest holding WTA competitions in the tradition of the Nexus community--when you make a clutch, choose one or two 'rares' and a few 'common' types and give players a chance to write something special! Traditional stories involve the player's character visiting your in-character adoption site and attempting to bond with a dragonet, but you can always change things up.
  • If you choose to breed your dragon and draw the offspring, be 100% certain that the designer of the other parent allows their species to be bred out. My Nexus dragons are special because they are all hybrids, and so they are all semi-open breeds. Other dragons may not be.
What is "bonding"?
  • Many Nexus dragons are born with the need or want to join their minds with a humanoid, especially at hatching or birth. Think DRoP, Eragon, or Temeraire. If your Nexus dragon comes with a stat trait "Needs to bond: Yes" you may wish to link them to one of your other characters so that they can officially become dragon-riders!
Anything else I should know?
  • If I find a dragon has been abandoned, I reserve the right to take it back. I'll make every effort to reach out to the current owner before I do this, as I want to be fair. Please do not make your Nexus dragon private or remove it from the link I have recorded for it without contacting me.
