BALLAD TO THE BURNING SUN

The bustling Marble Society on the planet of Obscure is in an age of artistic and scientific prosperity, a blooming renaissance that the old world could only dream of. Immortals and inventors live in harmony, feeding off of one another’s ideas and innovations. The world suddenly plunges into darkness when unexplained natural phenomena cause the planet to drift far away from its sun. In this bitterly cold and seemingly endless night, the once flourishing Marble Society cracks and crumbles as its members argue on and on over what they can do to save themselves. Mortals die out and immortals drown in their despair. Amidst this chaos, Eden, a socially reclusive yet very skilled mechanic who lives tucked away in a lighthouse, gets what they think is an absurd idea: what if they used their knowledge of machines to build a new sun for the planet? With the encouragement of (and even some help from) a small group of remaining Marble Society innovators, it’s up to Eden to return a burning sun to Obscure’s sky before the planet freezes over.
