ASOEAS

A SPECTACLE OF ELECTRICITY AND SOUND

A tale of high voltage, music and angels.

A Spectacle of Electricity and Sound, also known as ASOEAS, is an absolute nightmare of a project created by one man toiling away at his silly little devices, going by the online alias heavenstarship. It began life as a Kirby gijinka AU somewhere around 2018 and shifted to be an entirely original project in 2020. It has since grown to a previously unimaginable size, aiming to weave a myriad of characters, stories, genres and media types together to tell one grand story.

Plot threads in this project include a prosperous society of inventors and immortals, natural phenomena plummeting the world into darkness, one brave star who sought to put the sun back into the sky, a small town split in two by religion, a group of scientists who wish to play god, children struggling with who-- or what, exactly-- they are, the effects of mental illness left to ferment, trials and tribulations through the court of law, the deep-rooted sins of a sunlight-soaked church, the tranquil bliss of a quiet life, nefarious deeds of an eight-pointed technology company, greedy kings and tyrannical queens in faraway kingdoms, angelic beings driven mad, the tomfoolery of a polygon time god, wayward souls who want to rule the universe, and mechanical bands.

These plot threads occur over an extremely overlapping and convoluted timeline, and are planned to be divided into a variety of mediums. Potential ideas to capture include written novels, graphic novels, traditional animation, 3D animation, stop motion, shorts, music videos, one or more TV series[es?], feature-length films, video games, though the creator is most likely to start with web comics. Genres that these plot threads hope to explore are coming of age, psychological horror, slice of life, Japanese fantasy media, action-adventure, and more.

Some notable inspirations for this project are the Kirby series, music and members of American rock band Tally Hall, avant-garde musical experience ミラクルミュージカル and its album Hawaii: Part II, the Cartoon Network shows Steven Universe and Adventure Time (as well as their supplemental media), Studio Ghibli’s film Ponyo, Lemon Demon’s album Spirit Phone, the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, the wacky yet gut-wrenching discography of Oingo Boingo, and the whimsical songwriting of Danny Elfman.
