The clans met their end in a great war which left most of them dead. It was during the final battle, after all four leaders were struck down on the island, that Starclan finally broke their silence, ending the war and declaring the creation of two new clans led by Emberflight of Thunderclan and Stormstreak of Shadowclan. The surviving cats set off on a journey to find a new home, far from the bloody remains of the old clans, and when they arrived they split into their new clans, Emberclan and Stormclan. A tenuous peace has been reached, but these cats are the survivors of a bloody war now living alongside former enemies. Peace can only last so long...

Echoclan, Gorgeclan, and Willowclan have long lived together in relative peace, keeping to themselves and hardly interacting with one another. However, in recent times the cats of Gorgeclan have begun to push into other territories, stealing prey and picking fights. Their new leader, Fallowstar, is a cruel tom who has made his clan a living hell, beating down any cat who doesn't obey his command. Gorgeclan's problems are leaking into the other clans and soon the once peaceful land is filled with tragedy and strife.

Far from the warriors of the five clans, across an entire ocean, lives another group of cats, co-existing uneasily on the rocky coast of northeastern America: Boulderclan, the strong; Marshclan, the wise; and Seaclan, the swift. Each powerful in their own right, they live very different lives despite being so close to one another, and this often leads to tension between the three. So long ago a law was set down by the spirits who guide them to create peace in the clans. Unfortunately, peace never lasts. A Boulderclan queen, Thistlepelt, was found dead on the coast by Seaclan's camp. There was immediate war. Boulderclan blames Seaclan for the death of their friend. Seaclan insists they had nothing to do with it. All the while Marshclan attempts to act as a mediator between the two, fearing that their territory might become grounds for war.
