Mortemite

Mortemite - humanoid spirits that portend death

mortem (lat) - death/mortal

mite (fr) - moth

Since ancient times, butterflies, moths and other lepidoptera were considered personification of immortality, rebirth and resurrection. for example, ancient Greeks considered moths to be a symbol of the immortality of the soul. so the life of those spirits consists of never ending cycle of rebirth and transformation. in the human world they are the harbingers of death, existing in the form of ordinary winged insects.

On the eve of a man's death the spirit visits him and withers with him at the same time. The life cycle of shells of both ends, however, the human soul combines with the essence of the spirit and continues to exist in the world of souls. A reminders of past lives consists of some human habits, an individual's appearance and wings of lepidoptera on the head and torso.

In the world of spirits Mortemite are one of the most numerous species. They are also closely related to Sielett due to the fact that the human soul is always drawn to warmth and light, just like moths. Fascinated by luminous creatures, mortemite often fall madly in love with them, sometimes even becoming obsessed.

In the hierarchy of spirits they occupy far from leading positions, therefore, some of the representatives of the Mortemite serve to others species. But despite the low rank in the world of spirits, mortemites are very fond of their great potential in the field of creativity and their charisma.

Moths often clothe themselves in hand-painted Venetian style clothes with inlaid gemstones to shine reflecting light from lanterns universally present in the world of spirits.

The appearance of motremite primarily depends on the type of Lepidoptera, in whose shell the spirit was during life. If the species was small, then in the world of spirits the representative will be smaller than the rest. Males are often miniature and much more fragile and shorter than females. from a human, spirits can adopt some personality traits and individual's appearance. The limbs smoothly go black, sometimes interspersed with other colors and patterns, vaguely resembling the paws of insects.
