UPDATE Regarding my Bank and Paypal

Posted 1 year, 8 months ago by sleepy

In July, I made a (now deleted) bulletin about some issues I'd been having with my bank and cancelled transactions on Paypal. This is an update to that bulletin with new information I learned.

First of all, I cannot send money to anyone living in Ukraine or Russia for the time being due to regulations at my bank. According to the employee I spoke to, this is because they cannot ensure that money I send to residents of Russia or Ukraine won't be using the money to fund the war. The bank I'm using is not a national bank, it is a local, privately owned bank. Basically he told me that it could be detrimental if the bank ran into trouble due to transactions being sent to Ukraine/Russia because it doesn't have the backing that a national bank would have.

For the sake of staying on my bank's good side, I am going to keep my transactions to vendors in the US only.

Its not really fair, but the branch leader threatened to close my bank account if I continued to send money to people living in Ukraine or Russia. When I spoke to him over the phone, I let him know I disagreed with this decision, but they are rules I have to follow to prevent my account from being closed. (that would be bad for me!)

Second of all, what prompted me to make this update is that my bank actually cancelled one of the transactions I made. The recipient assured me that they received the payment and delivered the art I commissioned, and then contacted me a week later to inform me that the transaction was canceled. I wanted to be clear that if this happens, it is not my doing-- rather, its my bank cancelling a transaction I made without my permission. I didn't even know my bank could do that without my consent. I contacted Paypal but nothing could be done about it, ultimately, and I'm not really surprised but I wanted to try anyway. My ticket was closed with an automated response. :|

So far, that is the only transaction I've made that was canceled by my bank, but for a little insurance, I wanted to make this bulletin explaining the situation. I'll reiterate that if I sent you money and the transaction was cancelled, it is not something that I did, but rather it was my bank. Just contact me and we'll figure something out, and I'm really sorry that this happened. Me and my family, who have been using that same local bank for literally decades, were never informed that transactions to Ukraine and Russia would be intercepted by them so I had no idea until I was called by an employee. It really stinks that others got caught up in this mess.

Gentle Reminder

please do not ping me to inform me that you are selling a character I have favorited. I don't favorite characters because I want to buy them, so getting notifications about this are annoying at best. I often don't have cash to spare, anyway,

I don't want to block people for this but I will probably unfave every character that I've faved of yours to avoid another ping about sales.
