Wishbone isn't exactly a race, or a specific species. they're humans who possess  'cerus' -- an element that arrived from a comet
that fell in the distant past.it's like a cell but also like a virus.  but at the same time, it's not a virus nor a cell (cell+virus=cerus lmao)

Cerus, when awakened, grants the host a boost in their abilities and higher chances of survival.  
The active cerus will lodge itself into the brain, creating a hole into the skull, resulting in mysterious after-effects.
Depending on which side of the of the coin is viewed,  cerus can be considered either a blessing or a curse.

CERUS

Cerus first merged into an extinct ancient fish species
[This is why the physical traits are close to that of fish, due to the fusion of fish DNA into the cerus nucleus].

The fish is at the bottom of the food chain, making it possible for cerus to travel to other hosts and survive.
Cerus is highly adaptive and has a similar behavior to that of viruses.
It remains dormant inside its host’s body, the only exception being human bodies.
When in dormant state, it is invisible and very resistant. However, it will still die along with its host.

WISHBONE CREATION

When cerus finds a human host, the human won't immediately turn into a wishbone.
This is because cerus will still be dormant. In most cases, cerus only activates when the human is dying or very close to death.
As an act to preserve its own life, the active cerus will boost the human's capabilities by cloning itself and replacing any dysfunctional or damaged organs.
This act is seen as similar to mutual symbiosis, a mutually beneficial relationship between two organisms.
Only then will the human show wishbone characteristics.

WISHBONE TRAITS-DENSITY OVERVIEW

The traits shown by wishbones are closely related to cerus'’s dormant ability. The longer the dormant period of the cerus, the less density it has once active.
This is because when the cerus is dormant, it consumes itself, albeit very slow metabolism.
(Similar to slow metabolism some animals or hibernation). The density of the cerus influences the degree that they resemble as a human.
As for non-physical traits, lower density shows an overall lower physical boost, but due to longevity, wishbones that suffer from it
usually have a single ability that is unique or complex.

Please refer to this image *bones come in 2 color, ceramic white and black furnish, however black will be a rare trait as it  comes from consuming another being that has active cerus. (in other words, another wishbone) *wishbone still have human ears by default.

As an effect of cerus lodging itself into the brain of its host, all wishbones in one way or another  will experience mental instability. All wishbones will have a missing emotion, regardless of any other mental instability that may or may not occur. for example; unable to feel fear or unable to cry and so on. There's no general cure for this trait (read emotion retrieval below for more), unless cerus disappears, but they will cease as a wishbone. Do note that the cerus is the element that keeps wishbones living, so this would also mean their death. When a wishbone dies, they'll turn into dust or break down immediately. This is due to cerus overexerting the body’s capability. Here's the list of non-physical traits that are determined by density:  Higher overall physicall boost basic, simple ability(ies) small overall physical boost/none complex/unique ability

EMOTION RETRIEVAL

Emotion is something produced by external influence, as such by an interaction from external stimuli.
People may slowly develop their emotions back after interaction without being conscious of it.
Retrieving the lost emotion of a wishbone doesn’t always require specific treatment, but it's logical that
by mere communication it will take a lot more time compared to direct treatment or surgery.

Their output ability is closely linked to their degree of emotion retrieval.
The closer that they are to regaining their emotions, the weaker the ability they will have compared to that of before.

PURPOSE/HEADCANON

When creating this species, I didn’t have the inclination to build a world. I prefer to make a species that can blend into any situation.
Because of this, please think them as one of the irregularities that can happen sometimes. Generally wishbone as a species has no set purpose.
[Cerusl merely comes from outer space, they are only active to humans. Most probably there are  intelligent beings that's similar out there? or are humans actually aliens themselves?]

They're still human characters with some unique qualities,
