hi yes sorry to bother!! curious on if you do commissions and if you have any advice for drawing dragons!

oh! i do commissions from time to time, i usually open slots over on my twitter - though in the future i can definitely think to put a little alert over here after i work through my queue! thank you so much for your interest!! (and for your kind words, i appreciate it a lot)

as far as drawing dragons goes, i'm not sure i can say anything you don't already know, given you're a lovely artist yourself, but i'll go ahead and write out a few things and hope the repetition isn't too annoying

- inspiration is important! copying, of course, is never good - but being inspired by other people's take on dragons i think is a good thing. you can look at all of these different dragons and find out what you like. do you like long noodle dragons? do you like fluffy, cute dragons? do you like terror dragons with sharp teeth? all of those things will inform how you choose to draw dragons ultimately. do you love a person's take on claws? look at those claws and see if you can recreate what you like about them. obviously - don't claim people's work as your own & respect artist' tos, but inspiration is a positive thing in my opinion and there's a lot you can learn about your own preferences and what direction you want to go in with your work from looking at what sparks joy in you from other people's artwork. just don't let it be your only reference, and be honest.

i definitely don't know all the big names in 'dragon art', but here are some artists-who-draw-dragons whose work i enjoy! just keeping your eyes peeled for what you like and why can help wonders, especially with fantasy creatures.

- dragons are fake!! this is a double edged sword because you can't really directly google references of a 'dragon', not any real life pictures anyways. however this is extra cool because dragons can be a lot of anything. dragons are piecemeal from other sources, and this means you get to pick and choose what sort of pieces you want your dragon to be made up of. you want a dragon with a tiger-like face and bird-like wings? go ahead and google those things! references are your friend. (and maybe at some point you'll get so adept at drawing 'your vision' of a dragon that you'll be confident without references ... but really, references are good and even i need to use them more.) there's really great sites with turnarounds on animal skulls and various things like that out there. i tend to prefer to draw long-muzzled dragons with biggo teeth and even longer tails, but that doesn't have to be your vision of a dragon!

- biggest part of all: make a character who you love that is a dragon. make a character you love to draw, that is also a dragon. and then all the practice won't feel like work.

if you want me to offer something more concrete or a constructive criticism of an existing design, you're welcome to message me with it! i'll do my best to help in a more direct and non-generalized advice way.

Good to know!! I do not use Twitter often as it's just been a hellsite to figure out sometimes for me but i have been considering giving it another try as well with Tumblr seeing so many lovely artists on those platform and yours, i do certainly want to follow your art!!

Definitely will take this advice to heart, thank you so much for taking the time to respond to something i assume you may get asked a lot!! And ty for the compliment it means a lot GWA JDNDN
