About Me

Posted 4 years, 21 days ago by Myota

Instead of cluttering my profile with a bunch of unnecessary information, I'll put it here. The last one of these was made 3 years ago. Wow!

So, who exactly is this "Myota" person?

I'm a 21 year old college student with a passion for creating stories through cooperative writing and more recently through D&D. I draw some, I write some, and I RP some, but my main focus seems to always fall back on concepts and ideas, often explained, but not always expressed. I try to be friendly, but I can be a wee bit shy and awkward. Despite that I'm always willing to discuss worlds, characters, and ideas with others.

You RP?

Yup. Mostly with friends through Google Docs, but I don't mind trying some cooperative writing with strangers either here on ToyHouse. My genre range is typically modern fantasy or science fantasy and I'm all for silly one-offs but don't mind a serious story line either. Cooperative writing is my passion, and I've been making characters and stories for as long as I can remember, pretty much, so I've got a fair bit of experience. I wouldn't say I'm an excellent writer, I have my share of bad habits, but I like to think I'm above average in the skill department.

What's this Beyond Project thing?

It's the name of the cooperatively crafted world that my friends and I have created and maintain. It's an ever expanding and changing setting that we all write for, just for fun. Most of the stuff on my ToyHouse profile comes from here. It could be seen as my life's work, built upon years of ideas, changing as I, and the people who join me, change and mature. From the naive stories made by children playing with sticks in the backyard, to the purposeful plot lines made by an adults who never completely grew up.

You play D&D?

Yup. I'm new-ish to it, but I know the mechanics of 5e fairly well and love this method of creating a story. I've mostly only played in a group that was too large for my liking and a 'group' that's just me and the DM, so my experiences may be a tad odd compared to others. Thus far my favorite class is bard and my favorite race are kenku. I've favored spell casters and overly-loyal (To codes, morals, responsibilities, or people) characters but plan to try new things here soon.

Anything else to add?

Yeah, actually. I'd like to share a word with you. Sonder: "The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passed in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it." It's a beautiful yet immensely saddening thought. Everyone you meet has their own personal story, vivid and unique. Their own conflicts, goals, sorrows, and life, none of which you'll ever know. To you, the main character in your own story, they're merely background characters; a nameless barista that you may never meet again or a kindly stranger met along your walk. But to them, you are the background character. Nameless and unknown, a backdrop to the protagonist, a set piece, and nothing more. I like to incorporate this theme into my writing as well as remember it as I go through my life. It's sad, yes, that I'll never know their stories, but it's nice to have been a part of it none the less. We should all strive to make that tiny part we play in other people's lives worthwhile.

I'll grow up when fire burns cold.
