⚠️ WARNING! Spoilers about Death's Door ahead! Tread at your own risk! ⚠️

A long time ago, there was a door. The first door that ever existed. A mortal stumbled upon the Door, and Truth granted the mortal all the knowledge in the world. The mortal left, and their soul went to the Aether.

Mysterious beings, called Lords of Doors, were created. They each created the next, gave them a name, and told them when they were going to die. Until the fifth one was born. The Lord of Doors before this one could care less to give this Lord a name.

Eventually, the door shattered. The Fifth Lord of Doors stumbled upon it and rebuilt it, making a deal with Death. This LOD said that they wanted immortality (or at least a longer life) in exchange for Death's job to be taken by the Reapers (the crows). Death was tired of reaping souls; the living hated Death for taking their loved ones from them. So the fifth Lord of Doors took the job and gave it to the Crows. However, they decided to betray Death, and the Lord of Doors reconstructed the broken Door and locked Death within.

The Lord of Doors gave a reaper (the Grey Crow) the task of hunting down the mortal's soul and bringing it back. However, once a Crow is assigned a soul, they become mortal and can die until their task is complete. Any soul that goes into the Aether can never return, nor will it ever be obtained. So, the Lord of Doors gave the death sentence to the ignorant Grey Crow (who spent centuries seeking the soul, more on them later).
