For Drawing Characters...

Posted 6 months, 21 days ago by Shinxey

So I realize that not everyone viewing my profile necessarily has access to my Art Fight page since you need to be logged in to actually view it (and not everyone on here has an account there). Because of that, you might not know whether or not I'm okay with having my OCs drawn or what my rules for drawing them are! This is basically just to explain the dos and don'ts of what I am and am not okay with, but in a general sense, YES, I am totally okay with art of my OCs!

For a TL;DR, basically don't change my OCs from what they are in any way, be respectful of what's stated on their profiles, don't draw NSFW or gore (blood is fine), don't be gross/sexual with them, and don't involve them in hateful or political stuff. Pretty much anything else is fine! Here's a more detailed breakdown of le rules, below!

MAYBE/DEPENDENT
★You can draw multiple of my OCs together, even if they never met in canon or are from completely different universes. (For example, you could draw Cynthia with both of her siblings, Amber and Ramona together [though they've never canonically met], or even Mecha Cynthia and J4D3 having a battle [different universes]!)

★You can also draw your OCs interacting with mine, as long as they aren't doing anything in the "NO" category! Outside of that, go wild!

★You can draw my OCs wearing different clothes, as long as the outfits aren't sexual. Pretty much anything goes, as long as you think it'd fit the character(s)'s style! Adding earrings to the outfit change is also fine, but I'd rather not have any other piercings added. This rule can also apply to characters like my dragons that don't wear clothes, if you'd like to draw them in an outfit.

★You can draw my OCs with minor blood content or violence (for example, bleeding from non-graphic wounds, blood splatter on their body or clothes, one character punching another in the face, two characters swordfighting, etc.). Injuries are fine, just don't depict them as dead.

★You can draw SFW ship art of any characters whose profile states that they are in a relationship with their partner. Check the profiles of individual characters for more information regarding that. SFW ship art includes things such as hanging out (watching a movie, riding a roller coaster, going shopping, etc.), holding hands, hugging, cuddling, non-graphic kissing (kiss on the cheek/forehead, small one on the mouth, etc.), and literally sleeping together (extra emphasis on the "literally" part - NOT referring to sex!).

★You can also involve my characters in memes or shitposts! I absolutely love silly things!

★Any art medium, style, and skill level are also more than okay with me; I'm not picky at all! I love seeing all the unique ways that people imagine my characters! I'm also not going to get upset if the colors aren't exactly right. If the character has blue fur, as long as they're colored some shade of blue, that's good enough for me. lol Limited palettes/palette challenges are also really cool and I don't mind those either!

★I'm fine with simplifying designs if they're difficult for you to do, as long as prominent features (such as scars or cybernetic limbs) are still there. A few of my characters have gradients on their designs, and those can be simplified to be flat colors if you can't do those. Feel free to play around with the designs to fit your style!

★Any art that you do make of my characters is also A-OK to be shared wherever (including in art/commission examples), just as long as you credit me. :)

★Do not draw suggestive, fetish, or outright NSFW (including general nudity) content of my OCs. That also includes things such as exaggerating or focusing on the chests, ass, or groin areas of characters. This especially applies in relation to any ship art that may get drawn, with NSFW ship art including graphic kissing, inappropriate touching, and anything that goes beyond that. Many of my characters are minors, but I still don't want to see any of that done with my adult characters, either! I don't like NSFW content at all!

★Please do not draw extreme violence or gore (including body horror* and candy/pastel/etc. gore) of my OCs. I'm more than fine with blood content, but I am not okay with things such as exposed guts or mutilation. On this same note, do not depict my OCs as being dead.

*The character titled "The Virus" is an exception to the "no body horror" rule because that's its entire character design. As it is a computer virus, feel free to go nuts with glitches/etc.! Proto is also an exception to the rule because funky murder bot biomechanical abomination moment.

★I can't believe I have to add this, but please do not do gross/weird shit with my OCs, like drawing them vomiting or pissing/shitting their pants. Don't do tickle stuff with them either, please.

★Do not involve my OCs in hate art of any kind. I don't care if it's as serious as attacking someone's sexuality, gender, religion, etc. or if it's as minor as hating on a fandom; don't do it at all. That will not be tolerated here.

★On a similar note, also do not involve my characters in political stuff. I do not give a damn about politics and I don't want my stuff turned into political garbage.

★Please do not draw my characters using drugs or other substances, with the exception of alcohol (only for those that are 21 or older). If giving them alcohol, do not depict them as being drunk.

★Please do not draw ship art of any character whose bio does not state that they are in a relationship OR draw ship art of a character who is in a relationship with anyone other than their partner. While not all of my OCs are aro/ace/both, most of them honestly do not care about being in a romantic/sexual relationship with anyone. In addition, do not give any couples children that they don't canonically have. If they have no kids, keep it that way. If they have only one kid, don't create a new little sibling for them.

★Do not change my characters from what is stated in their profiles or heavily alter their appearance. This includes things such as genderbends, age swaps, and race/species swaps. A few characters do have multiple ages listed in their bios or have images depicting them at different ages for lore-based reasons. In their case, it's fine to draw either version.
In a nutshell, keep the characters as they are and make them recognizable.

★In the same vein, be respectful of what's stated on their profiles as well as important design elements (for example, scars or cybernetics). More details regarding that are provided in tabs on their individual profiles.

★Please do not draw gijinkas/human versions of my non-human characters or draw the human ones as animals (whether they're anthro or not). I'd also prefer not switching between feral and anthro designs. Please keep them as they are.

★On the subject of changing characters' clothes, I'd prefer not drawing them in swimsuits or maid dresses, but if there is a swimsuit or maid dress design posted in their character image gallery, that design (and ONLY that design) is fine to use.

★On the subject of altering characters, while I would greatly prefer having all my OCs stay as they are, ponyfications of the horse Sonic OCs (and ONLY them) are okay. It fits for lore reasons. lol This DOES include Pearl and Jinxy!

★Mild robot gore (for example, exposed wires, cracked/split/severed body parts, heavily "bleeding" oil, etc.) is fine for all of the robot characters except for Skystrike. (Remember that they're all robots, so they don't have blood, they "bleed" oil instead!)

★A few characters such as Valerie and Daisy are fine to have flirty prompts as long as they aren't too lewd. Specifications for that are included in tabs on individual character profiles.

★As mentioned in the "NO" category, alcohol is fine for any character that is 21 or older. Do not give it to anyone younger than that or draw them using any other substance.

★As mentioned previously, I'd rather my OCs weren't depicted as dead. However, in the name of memes, I am fine with Family Guy death pose or Yamcha death pose memes, because I do find those funny.

And that's basically about it for the rules! If there is still anything that you're wondering about or wasn't addressed here, feel free to reach out to me on here or my Tumblr (I will likely see the latter first)! I may also update these rules at times, so check back here for the most up-to-date version. (It probably won't change much though.) Have fun doodling, if you do!
