i used deviantart very much back in the day, up until around 2019 [and when eclipse became a thing]. i stopped using it completely.....i found that everyone there was always super supportive of each other and nice though!! on the off chance i ever check it out, i see that people still do post on there which is neat.
so i'm wondering, is it worth posting on there anymore? i find that twitter, instagram and tumblr are mostly good for things like fanart. which is fine, except that i feel like i haven't got anywhere to post about my characters aside from here!! i've got a bunch of oc art i just feel too weird to post on places like tumblr or insta. idk!! i guess i just miss the sense of an art community if that makes sense.
any thoughts, opinions or comments on this are greatly appreciated!!
As someone who just left dA not too long ago.. I’d say no LOL. If you can withstand their constant push for AI art then I guess give it a shot but it got so annoying to me. It also just feels nothing like how it used to, or at least anything like how it felt for the brief point in time I used it back in 2015. Groups are completely dead/nonfunctional and people don’t really feel as welcoming (or there’s just no one really there anymore).
In terms of gaining an audience/community, I’ve always had the most luck with Instagram. It’s not really my favorite place… it annihilates image quality just to start, but there’s plenty of people on there posting OC art that I follow and have had luck there too. I like using Tumblr as an art archive because it keeps good image quality but it does feel a lot harder to actually reach people. Idk anything about Twitter so I can’t really speak on that lol. I recently made an account on Newgrounds to fill the gap that dA left when I finally decided to leave and I’m liking it a lot more, if that’s something you’d consider too.

omg so sorry for replying a whole two weeks late but thank you for this comment!! i totally get that, it really doesn't feel the same as it used to at ALL and everything with AI art on there just sucks so bad, my bf and planetpain mentioned that too.
i think will definitely just stick to instagram [even though it totally destroys and demolishes and obliterates the quality...] and i really do like how tumblr works even if it's difficult to reach people when you're posting oc art especially. it does work as a good art archive, so i like that!! newgrounds sounds like it might be interesting though, ty for that suggestion!! i totally forgot it even existed but that might be cool!!

You're completely fine don't worry! I'm so behind on replying to things here because of the holidays, I totally understand LOL. Ya it's super sad to see - sometimes I wonder if Deviantart's horrible decision making is done on purpose to make the site die out or something... no idea how that'd benefit anyone but it's really baffling regardless anyway.
Speaking from personal experience that may be the best (unfortunately), I have many gripes with Instagram but I've had the best luck reaching people there as someone who almost exclusively only makes art of OCs too. Another reason I like Tumblr though is for the exact opposite reason, I like being able to dump art there and not really have a concern for how much attention it gets lol

Not at all. They're still supporting the use of NFTS and AI Art and if I'm correct, any art uploaded to it is free roam for being input within an AI Art generator because by using the site, you agree to their terms.
They also recently support Israel, and again if I'm correct, they're donating money towards it as well.
So def not worth using imo.

i had a vague idea about the AI stuff but had no idea about them supporting Israel. thank you though for this comment, i definitely will not be returning to deviantart.

No problem at all! And yeah, to be fair it didn't get that much outrage since people already expect the worst of the worst from the site.
