HAPPY 2024!! ๐Ÿฅณ

I hope everyone had a good New Year! I wanted to make a bulletin to give a quick update about me and stuff. I'm still working on commissions, and I swear to god I will actually open them publicly eventually LOL. I have a couple of regulars, so I never have slots to announce publicly ๐Ÿ˜… Commission work has been extremely slow because I'm going through a slump right now. I've been trying to draw more personal art for myself recently because it's something I don't do as much as I used to. My OC galleries lack art made by me smh. I'm working on a few new projects that I can't wait to share publicly! One of them is aboutangels,s and the other is about hitmen hehe.ย

Anyway, you guys should tell me your new year's resolutions! I'm super curious to see what everyone's goals are this year. It makes me feel inspired when I hear what other people are working towards. Here are my resolutions and goals:

  1. Make more OC art that I personally enjoy.ย This is a really big one for me. I'm not sure exactly what caused this, but I became scared of drawing my OCs in 2023. Every time I drew them, my brain would start to think, "Why are you drawing your OCs when you should be drawing commissions?" 2023 was the year I decided to become a full-time freelance artist, so my mind was always focused on trying to make a career for myself with my art. Guilt constantly loomed over my head when I drew personal art. I want to get that mentality out of my head this year; it's totally okay for me to draw for myself. In fact, I'd say it's important that I do it so I don't burn out lol. My perfectionism also became awful in 2023 as my projects became more developed. Any picture of my OCs that wasn't 100% perfect in my eyes became unacceptable. I miss the days when I could scribble a messy doodle of Mai and be satisfied with it sigh. It's funny to think that art used to be my escape from graphic design, but now graphic design is my escape from art. This resolution also refers to my goal of wanting to explore darker subject matter with my art. I made this goal a few years ago, I think, and never really pursued it. I'm hoping that this is the year I can draw out all the monster ideas I have in my head LOLย
  2. Launch a Patreon. I've been wanting to launch a Patreon for ages. This is the year I do it!! In general, I just want to do more with my career than commissions. I want to sell products, make merch, and create more adopts!ย
  3. Make a visual novel. Ideally, I'll make a really short visual novel as a test, then go on to make all the other visual novels I want to write. Coding scares me, so I've been hesitant about using Renpy, but I'm going to try to delve into it anyway. Surely it's not as difficult as it seems if so many people are able to make visual novels.
  4. Save up to move out. I NEED AN APARTMENT OF MY OWN SO BADLY. I won't be able to move out this year, but dear lord, I hope I'll have at least 80% of the funds I need to move out.ย
  5. Be more independent. This goal applies to every aspect of my life. I want to stop depending on others as much as I do now. I used to be really independent in the past, but I have slowly lost my ability to think for myself and do things for myself. I don't understand why I've become a person who cares so much about other people's opinions when I didn't care in the past. I want to go back to my old self (but only the good parts of it, haha). I don't want to give up my values for the approval of people who don't have my best interests in mind.

2023 wasn't the best year for me, so I'm going to try to make 2024 a better one!

Random person from dA here since I saw your recent adopt sheet. The mention of visual novel pulled me in here so. Renpy is immensely easy to get into since it uses Python. It's far easier than PHP and the guide is really really well done. Please do give it a shot. I've done UI work for it and also made some fun little ones in the past (my eyes only since rough drafts and they're gone thanks to hdd failures lol).

Rather than pateron, I really recommend Ko-fi over it as both a buyer and artist.

Shooot id throw all the money at you for merch honestly! Also patreon!? Heck yeah!

Fr though I feel that about the independency and art slump, 2023 was a downer in the online art space i feel.

My art goals for this year are roughly the same as last years but thankfully i have less obstacles dragging me down so hopefully iโ€™ll come out of this art slump swinging and actually get somewhere~ Other goals is just branch out more socially instead of being at home all the time, difficult as an introvert but weโ€™ll see how i go lol

Happy New Year! I hope 2024 is kinder to you!

LOFTY, I SUPER APPRECIATE THAT!! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’•

It makes me happy to know someone out there is interested in my work. I always worry about launching a Patreon because I don't wanna be someone who constantly advertises and has 0 patrons ๐Ÿ˜–

I love all the art you've been posting here so I'm excited to see more! I feel the same way about wanting to revitalize my social life again. December 2022 was the month I graduated college so my social life became exclusively online friends as I no longer needed to go out and talk to people anymore (also all my IRLs moved away lmao). It's rough being an introvert who wants friends. I have to consider my options when I choose to hang out with someone. Sometimes a 1 hour hangout can drain my energy for the whole day ๐Ÿ˜… Hopefully with better habits, that issue will start to go away. I'm cheering you on as well!

๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝโœจ๐Ÿ’–

Oh for sure! I donโ€™t interact much due to just being so low on spoons and energy but i enjoy seeing everything youโ€™ve been putting out lately! Especially those adopts! Some of them had me going โ€œ๐Ÿ‘€โœจโ€

I definitely feel that regarding Patreon, I actually collaborated with someone on a shared Patreon page in 2023 and even though they did a lot of the heavy lifting, it did prod my insecurities so ultimately it felt like a chore and ended with the mutual decision to close it. So any advice I can offer really is start small with it, dip yer toes in as they say, definitely use that scheduled posts feature its a godsend, and just see how it all feels for you c:

Gosh same boat here. Most of my close buds are spread across the continents while iโ€™m here in big little down under lol i thankfully work retail to keep my energy up, otherwise socialising will leave me with a sore throat ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Also thank you! Im hoping to get more art done this year and start a couple projects rather than just picking n prodding at ideas n leaving them.

Yes please do draw more OC stuff with dark subject matter!! You're allowed to balance commission art with personal art!!

An OC visual novel would be a sight to behold. Good luck to you with making it. Good luck with all your goals this year.

This year, I plan to draw more frequently and set art goals for the upcoming months.

It's so validating to hear someone else tell me it's okay to draw what I want to ๐ŸฅบThat's ironic considering I just said one my of resolutions is to be more emotionally independent LMAO. Baby steps I suppose haha. Thank you so much, I hope I achieve all my goals as well!

Yeahhh, let 2024 be the year you draw a ton of art!! It honestly takes a lot of energy to pump out pieces consistently but if you're setting realistic goals for yourself then you'll definitely be able to do itย

You're very welcome. Take it day by day.

Thank you! Best of luck to both of us. -raises Pusheen water bottle as a toast-

YAYY LEON UPDATE!! I 100% encourage these goals!! especially the first one. I know how it feels to not wanna draw your ocs because you could be drawing commissions / other things for others. I got out of this mindset like. after AF 2023 and trust me it is like a weight lifted off your shoulders HAHA I hope you can get into this mindset this year!! it is so good for you mentally ๐Ÿ™ its so nice you be personal / tell us your goals to your audience, we really appreciate it! happy new years and I hope 2024 treats you better :]

HAZARD COMMENT... ๐Ÿฅบ God yeah, being part of so many events where I'm expected to draw for other people and doing commission work has gotten me so accustomed to only drawing for others. If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage to get out of that mindset? I AM STRUGGLING...

Also, I'm happy to hear that you liked hearing my goals! I hope your 2024 is good too ๐Ÿ˜Š

thats so fair I know events can really be taxing especially since like, you feel like you gotta just constantly draw [I felt this way with af ๐Ÿ˜ญ] AND DW I dont mind giving advice about it!! since I like went from only drawing for others to almost exclusively drawing for myself all with in 6 months HAHA

Honestly the biggest thing that got me to just keep drawing for myself rather than others was college. Since when im in college I have less time to myself so my mind set is like. ok I have free time I want to use it on myself. the mindset is basically if you're a busy person / have a job and other things, use your free time to yourself rather then other people [ofc its ok to draw for others esp if its commissions + work] but I mean this in an event / giving away stuff.ย

obviously set what you think is best for yourself when it comes to drawing for others [like if its an event set a goal maybe, do like one drawing a day or one every other day but put a bit of effort into it] or with commissions do a set amount of slots. since im in college right now I barely draw for others atm just because I wanna focus soley on my college work / growing my style in my free time so I can have a portfolio by the time im done. this is also why I dont open customs / commissions / any sort of trades anymore. ย I wanna have my portfolio and professional work be my own stuff and not others [especially if I dont own the design I made anymore.. wahh]ย

Obviously this is all like my personal experience, I know you're a busy person but getting into that mindset of "I have free time let me use it for myself to develop my ocs and worlds" has really helped me. ย like rn I am on a grind making tons of characters for my specific world since I just have so much time and its really rewarding HAHA. sorry this is so long but yeah, main advice is use the free time you have outside of work / commissions for yourself. its also ok to draw for yourself in-between commissions and events too. It's your time and art, and doing oc stuff can really help with work burn out too.

This is super long and I hope it makes sense / is good advice HAHA id love to see more of your oc stuff even if theyre just silly doodles or busts. You have such cool and unique ocs and id love to see you focus on them in 2024 and the coming years :]

WAH THANK YOU THE SUPPORT, IT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME... ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’•

I'm happy to hear you can relate to my goals! I honestly have so many more goals in my life I want to achieve but I narrow it down for this post haha. YES, LET'S MAKE OC ART FOR OURSELVES (โ€ขฬ€แด—โ€ขฬ)ูˆ ฬ‘ฬ‘

I WAS JUST ABOUT TO YELL ABOUT HOW YOU SHOULD HAVE MORE THAN 2 PIECES OF OC ART IN YOUR SUMMARY but then you went into talking about that. i'm happy for you and rooting for you to be able to be happy with drawing your ocs more!! ๐Ÿฅบ I would definitely try to join your patreon if you made one, but I understand how harrowing it is. I'm giving you all my support 1000%!!

I'M YELLING AT MYSELF FOR BARELY HAVING ANY OC ART TO SHOW AHHHH. I've left my babies to collect dust on my shelves smh. Gosh, I super appreciate all the support and kindness you've shown me ๐Ÿฅบ I can't thank you enough for all the compliments and amazing art. The doodles and sketches you've made of my characters made me love my own OCs more haha. I APPRECIATE YOU...

HEHE THANK YOU NORI!! It's comforting to know I'm not the only one struggling with commission guilt and OC perfectionism ๐Ÿ˜… I actually have RPG Maker MV and RPG Maker VX! I bought them a long time ago when they were on sale but have yet to explore the program. I should give it a shot if it's supposedly easier to use than Renpy. I've played a few visual novels made by RPG maker that run well so surely it can do what I want it :>

YEAH BOY KEEP ROCKING IT

THANK YOU BUT ALSO NO YOU ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ

Woah, I didn't know you relied on art as your main source of income ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I probably should've expected that though considering how professional your art and social media are haha. That's so cool!! I rarely ever come across other artists who are also trying to make a living with their art. If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage to stick to a monthly schedule? I've tried a couple of schedules myself and none of them seem to work out for me (probably because I have no self-discipline LOL).ย

Thank you!! I also look forward to seeing more of your OC art and personal projects!ย

if you make a visual novel i will GO INSANE \pos
(also happy new year ๐ŸŽ‡)

SKDFJKLS THANK YOU!! I have soooo many visual novel ideas it's making me go crazy not writing them out. I'll be sure to have everyone see at least a snippet of them this year!
