Deusoia Info (WIP / Feedback wanted!)

Posted 6 years, 2 months ago by Kuruna

I'm working on these guy's lore story but...I'm not a fast writer! So this is all info that's still in development, and some stuff is... very incomplete. One sentence long.  If you have any ideas or suggestions I'd love to hear 'em!
I think I fixed it but if you see "Deusoia" three times in one go it's bc I used ___ as a place holder until using word replace to change it.

"Aloris was the youngest of the four Goddesses who were the first to inhabit the chaos of the universe.
Protogenia, mother of all time,
Liand, the creator of life,
and Maher, the protector, were the other three.

Their endless power came from a mysterious source- a bundle of light, kept hidden within the recesses of space.
But the curious Aloris wanted to know what this light truly was.
And so, she got her answer.

...In the ensuing passage of darkness to light, and Maher’s death in a final gambit to spare Aloris’s life, the young goddess was thrust from the heavens, her weak body falling to a lifeless planet.
Blind, alone, and unknowable in this new world, the Goddess Aloris began to sob.
But from her tears, life would form."

Deusoia are fae-like creatures  created by the Goddess Aloris, to provide herself company on the lonely planet, molded from gemstones and the husk of insects. The are the first “intelligent” life forms on the planet, though others have naturally formed over time.
Though she intended them to be as close to “God-like” as she could achieve, they’re more often than not rather frail, although they can never truly “die” unless the glass gem on their foreheads are shattered.
These gems inherently possess the ability to relay memories, and if shards of a broken gem are gathered, they can be pieced back together. However, it will take hundreds of years for the individual pieces to fuse again...but when the process is complete, the Deusoia  will be reborn.

The Deusoia are highly intelligent, and rarely experience lapses of memory. They are known to be rather curious creatures. Many scholars among them study alchemical processes, including transmutation. Their proficiency with magic makes this rather simple, so long as they have the right ingredients.
Typically, Deusoia don’t travel too far from their forested home, but some go on journeys, usually to collect data about the world, and bring back new discoveries to show the folks back home.

The Deusoia bear features from the four Goddesses:
Their thin wings and the small pair of “arms” on their bodies, from Protogenia.
Their empty eyes, from Maher.
Their great magic, from Liand.
Their gems, from Aloris.

ALORIS
Aloris is one of the four original goddess. Now an adult, she keeps herself secluded as punishment for what she did in her youth, despite the fact that others have long forgiven her.  She meddles very little in the affairs of the life of her planet, but she will on the rare occasion reveal herself to give her blessings.

IODE
Iode is the of the Deusoia to be born, and is their monarch, only bowing to the Goddess Aloris.

THE SUN AND THE MOON
The marking on a Deusoia’s chest only forms after they are born. A star indicates someone born during the day, and a moon indicates someone born at night. These markings serve no purpose other than determining time or moon phase that purpose was born: for example, one born on a crescent moon will have the crescent marked on their chest. These markings are seen as blessings.

ALORIS’S KINGDOM
While most of her subjects reside on the Earth below, Aloris, in all her guilt, has isolated herself within a castle hidden in the clouds. Very few of these fae live in within her castle, and those that do are often Deusoia  that have been reborn a number of times.
When one is chosen to join Aloris in her kingdom, Aloris comes to them, personally.
It is their decision whether they wish to come with her or not.

REBIRTH
Most Deusoia live for thousands of years before their life span runs out. When they “die”, their bodies turn to nothingness, leaving behind nothing but a gem.
If that gem is returned to the holy tree Vividia, it can reform a body. However, it takes hundreds of years for this process to occur.
When a Deusoia is reborn, they will return all their old memories.

THE LIFE CYCLE
A Deusoia starts off as a grubs, born from the discarded shells of giant cicada which cocccon on the holy tree Vividia during the spring. These grubs are essentially helpless, and must be cared for by the caretakers until they’re ready to pupate, which typically takes 10 months to a year. During this phase,

THE HOLY TREE VIVIDIA, THE FOUNTAIN, AND THE MNEMONIC
Most Deusoia live in a secluded forest, near the God-tree that sprouted where Aloris’s tears first fell. The tree itself is guarded, impossible to reach for most, but a select few are allowed to view the tree’s base, and drink it’s holy water.
While the forest of Vividia is mostly inhabited by Deusoia, some humans and other species are able to take shelter there...whether they be hiding from persecution, or...have fallen for one of the fae.

Mnemonic are flowers which only grow in the forest of Vividia. A new mnemonic blooms when a tragedy befalls the world.
These flowers have a toxic pollen, which can cause memory loss and other physical abnormalities.
While the Deusoia  are mostly immune to the pollen, it can cause temporary effects, and if the exposure is prolonged, they can become permanent.

RELATIONSHIPS
Like most creatures of the world, Deusoia crave intimacy, be it romantic or platonic or otherwise.

MAGICS
With the exception of Aloris, the Deusoia are the closest thing to Godhood on the small planet. As such, these creatures are born with the power of creation. Though, they can only create small things with this magic.
There are some rare types of magic. For example, every hundred years or so, a Deusoia is born that is able to freely create Mnemonic.
On the near impossible occasion a cracked gem doesn’t result in death, the magic is greatly affected. It will leak directly from the gem, causing unwanted effects on the surrounding world.
Sometimes, this leaking of magic can lead to corruption.

CORRUPTION
A cracked gem leaks magic into the world...and in particular cases, can absorb magic. This mixing of magic can create unstableness, and worsen any cracks in the gem. Eventually, the gem is corrupted, and the affected Deusoia loses control over their magic.
The effects of this are be destructive, and the overwhelming power causes the gem to eventually shatter.
This is a tale that a Deusoia can find a way to channel this power, effectively balancing themselves...and avoiding destruction, but there is no proof of this claim being true...currently.

ISOLDA, THE WORLD
Isolda is the name of the continent they live on...

OTHER NOTES
-Due to the instability of the universe, Aloris’s creations are never quite “perfect”. The Deusoia’s lack of mouths may be proof of this, but conveniently, they have formed a way to feed by sunlight alone.
Not having a need for food doesn’t affect the diversity of their bodies, however. Iode herself is Very Fat.

-Horns are proof of Godhood. Broken or cracked horns represent loss of status. Horns are a rather rare trait, and are accompanied by a small forehead gym. It is rarer still these horns will be whole- typically, they’re broken like Aloris’s.

-For Deusoia with complete horns, one new horn appears for every thousand years they're alive...though they grow no more than 6. For Deusoia with broken horns, their horns will remain like that for the rest of their life.

-Deusoia Are typically on the short side, though it is not impossible for them to become quite tall.
