How do you organize/sort your characters?

Because I honestly have no idea how i want to go about it X_X but i really want to have a nice folder system you know??

I see people who organize by species, so they'll have folders for each cs (which ithought of doing but if my ocs are in stories together it'd be mixed species prolly ; ) ... or people who have 'mains' 'secondary' and so on (an idea i really like but also still not sure...)...
or people who organize based on the story or world the character is a part of--- which seems like the best idea to me but also aah my stories are all scattered or ocs are solo, so i also don't know if that'd be best x-x

But i'd be interested to hear how other people like to do it! Please tell me <3

I like to be as minimal as possible so I really like to utilize the nested folder look. The less clicking, the better IMO.

For ocs I have stories for, I put them in specific folders but have their species in tags. I then have others/species folders for those that don't particularly have a specific world or story, or I haven't done much with? Within species I only make sub species folders if I have more than say 2 of the same species 🤔

TH foldering would be significantly easier if we could sort them into multiple folders but alas we can't

I sort them by the story! But I'm kinda peculiar in the sense that I don't use folders or anything like that, and instead, I use the tabs from the character page and just upload characters of the same story there. My explanation doesn't make much sense but yeah hfjsh. The landing page will be the summary of the character's story as well as image quicklinks to the individual character tabs, and the tabs are... well... the characters!

I don't really like having to click many things to see all my characters, and the "view all" button will messily jumble up the order (i think we can set the order now, but I did this way before the update so;;; ) I also set the avatar to show the important characters in the story. It's not perfect, but it's what works best for me atm!

I can kinda see the stack folder working for me, but again I did this before the update and I'm too lazy atm to try and reorganize;;; I also fear the page will get too long to see all my characters without scrolling haha (yeah I'm that particular). I like seeing all of them at once without having to click and scroll;;

oh wow! That's a really interesting way to do it!! I hadn't thought of doing something like that but honestly it's a really cool idea!
It also def limits the back and forth trips you'd have to make to view every character in a story rwdhifweodlkx

also oh man i feel you on that, recently i've been wanting to find a code for my profile which completely defeats the need for scrolling.... idk it just looks so much neater, and ye being able to see them all at once is preferable!

It's a mixture of tags and folders to be honest! I have a wip folder for characters who either need to be placed and/or need their profiles worked on. I label them as cs/gender/status/uftufs/etc via their tags as well. I need to go through them and list who was gifted/bought/traded to me. It's just easier when looking for rp or trading away. Seems like a lot when I write it out but I assure you it's not, lol.

Most my ocs are also solo or in separate world so i organize them by mains/secondary/etc. And i dont have many ocs anyway so the folders are kinda empty anyway LOL if i had more ocs i would definitely sort by worlds/stories.

asdfghjk honestly it feels like that's the best way to go about it if you have a lot of solo characters not part of a bigger story/world together, lmao!!
I feel like if i did organize by story then i'd just have a crap ton of folders with like ... 2 chars in them LMFAO
I tend to do a lot of my stories w/ friends so the chars are split between us so even if there are a lot of chars in the world/story overall it'll always be a small number in my own personal oc collection idsoj just seems like a waste

yeye it can be p annoying to have to nagivate thru folders only to have v few charas in each folder LOL

i make my oc stories/worlds around their designs instead of design inspired by the story/world so they very rarely overlap o)-(

i still do feel a lil bad to put ocs in like secondary folders bc its like putting a sign on them like "sorry i dont love u as much lol" but otherwise it would be a complete mess

i see some ppl sort them by gender/aesthetic so more design based? but its quite rare bc i guess it would be harder to find what ur looking for unless u know what the character looks like

Ooh nice! I get that, I feel like certain cs belong in their own world/story depending on how they work etc, esp if its like an ARPG cs which already has a pre existing world
Atm my only form of organization is by tag-- which i do find very useful too!
