it's just a slightly transparent background with a simple pattern behind a shrunken down/cropped version of an image of the character (mine have the corners cropped off, if needed)
the nametag is just another transparent layer and a text layer on top of that
and then a solid border on top of it all!

how do u do your thumbnails for your characters?? theyre super cool and i kinda wanna do something similar!
