hi viioletgarden, thanks for your question! i'm going to quote an answer my good colleague mollygoma gave to a similar question, i hope that's okay!

"What sets dainties apart from your typical fauns and satyrs, I would say is ultimately their ultra-versatile traits, right alongside the fact that their stockings can't be removed! It's true that a faun in thigh-highs certainly can look an awful lot like a dainty, but fauns and satyrs are most often limited to either deer or goat features (as far as ears/horns/antlers), while dainties have a much wider variety to choose from so to speak; so you can get wild combos like a dog-eared dainty with antlers, or maybe a mouse-eared dainty with gazelle horns!

It's also true that a big draw of dainties are their permanent stockings in particular; there's just something really fun/challenging about planning dainty outfits/styles based around their specific stocking type! Of course, if that's not your scene, well that's totally okay too! <3"

interesting! i hope you don't mind me questioning further- i genuinely want to learn about species like this and be able to enjoy the appeal like other users, so i just need some help understanding! :-) /gen

the world of oc creation i guess is pretty diverse- and i suppose i'm wondering what stops users from creating satyr ocs with unnatural features. personally i'm a big fan of accessorizing existing species with features unlike them, so if someone was to make a satyr-based character with- i don't know, cat ears and little cow horns? that's something they can do without being affiliated with dainties. i'm trying to open my mind to this sort of thing and i guess i just don't understand the difference between a fun silly satyr character, and a dainty. like... if a character is 100% unaffiliated with dainties and just looks like one, how do you make the distinction?

sorry for the big paragraph! like i said i really do want to open my mind and i'm hoping to get some help in explanations! /gen

no worries at all! we don't go around policing other people. as long as they don't claim a dainty look-a-like as a dainty or otherwise try to mislead people, we don't mind whatever other people do! however of course if someone were to make a dainty look-a-like and then try to get it approved as a dainty, it would be at our discretion for if they could do that or not. basically, as long as no one is actively trying to endanger, scam, or otherwise harm our community, we don't mind what they do! our community is a big part of what dainties as a group offers, since just about anyone can make a dainty looking character but they wouldn't be allowed to interact with our community events and whatnot with that lookalike!

okay yeah! that actually makes a lot more sense! i was confused about the appeal of such a simple species, but the community aspect is a big part now that i think about it like that! thank you for taking the time to help me understand :-) i've never been big on closed species but i've been interested in learning about them and you opened my eyes more!! ^^ tysm!!
