2nd entry!! I really love this one so I tried to put some more detail into her :D

Name: As soon as I thought of her personality, the name Tsunami popped into my head & won't leave LMAO a little unoriginal but I love it tbh. But I'll probably call her Tsu or Nami throughout this entry cause I'm a sucker for nicknames -- my bad if it gets confusing.

Connections: She would live in the same world as Shui and Arcadia. She'd be a lot closer to Shui than Arc, though, simply due to occupation and personality differences.

Basic bio:

- Current occupation is the beloved daughter of the singular monarch of the remaining Kitsuren. (some say this isn't necessarily a job, but the shit she puts up with definitely says otherwise LMAO)

- Identifies as a lesbian asexual for some of the story, but asexual shifts to demisexual after a while due to having new experiences and meeting new people.

- Likely somewhere in her early to mid 20s.

The Kitsuren:

- The name Kitsuren is a combination of the words kitsune (meaning fox in Japanese) and siren. Their name comes from the fact that they have both the features of a fox (ears, tail, conniving and sly personality) and the features of a siren (deadly but sweet voice, excellence in swimming, teeth sharp enough for... specific activities we will not be delving into here :]).

- In ancient times, they were referred to as Kitsuningyo, which roughly translates to "fox human fish" in Japanese. This is an outdated term that became somewhat derogatory (depending on context) after they relocated to their new habitat due to war. However, most legends still feature the term Kitsuningyo for the sake of historical preservation.

- Alongside their lethal voices, Kitsuren are well-known for their ability to shapeshift. While most are only able to shift their tails, eyes, and ears into more human-like or mermaid-like features, there are many who have put in the time and effort (or became fortunate due to good genes) to grow their skills to the point where they can shift entire body parts, including their facial structure and hair, or even to completely take the form of the typical (albeit somewhat larger) fox. All Kitsuren who deal with politics or are otherwise frequently in the public eye are able to do this. This is because they've learned from their past full of betrayal that showing an enemy your true face can bring your downfall. This is why Kitsuren who often interact with other races have a kitsune mask covering their face the entire time. While this is unnecessary given their ability to shapeshift, the Kitsuren can be described as a vindictive race, and they use the masks to remind those who have harmed them in the past that they won't be given the opportunity to do so again. (They also just look cool; Kitsuren can be described as a fashionable race, as well.)

- The goddess of the Kitsuren (at least, those who still choose to put their faith in her) is Vixe. Her name is derived from the word vixen, and she shares quite a few qualities with the more informal use of it: fierce, alluring, and brash to name a few. Most of the stories on Vixe are not confirmed to be true; they all vary far too much from person to person, each telling containing more scandal, more entertainment, for anyone to be able to determine their legitimacy. While Vixe does indeed allow Kitsuren to see and speak with her, her word is not always trustworthy, so asking her is not a sure solution. There is only one undoubtedly true legend, one rather recent in Kitsuren history: the era Vixe spent lounging in her secret, luxurious hole while her people fought for their lives. It's needless to say she was met with much less faith than usual when she finally emerged.

A little summary of the world/story she'd be in:

- Shui and Arcadia are both water nymphs that belong to a specific group of Naiads. In the beginning, Arcadia is part of the board of regulations, but as their people start to face betrayals and threats of war, she's nominated to become the single ruler of the naiads. Around this same time, Nami is facing the pressure of having to either usurp her father's role as monarch given his recently revealed corruption or watch her people suffer.

- There are other species to be created/added to this story, but the main plot/conflict would end up being their combined fight against humanity. Of course, these species have fought against each other before (and some still are during the fight against humanity), so that can also be said to be one of the main -- and likely more interesting -- conflicts.

Nami's backstory:

CW // death/grief, poor coping skills, cursing

"I'm sorry for your loss."

Those are the five words Tsu has heard most the last two months.

"Your father must be heartbroken." "She was such a kind soul, your mother." "May Vixe welcome her heartily."

She wants to tell them all to fuck off. To mind their own fucking business; to crawl back into the sorry holes they came from.

But she's Tsunami, daughter of the monarch (no longer "monarchs") of the Kitsuren, role model for young and old alike, a representation of (what's left of) her family. So she smiles, lips painfully tight, eyes staring honey-coated daggers just under the eyes of people she barely knows the names of (she wouldn't if it weren't part of her job to do so), shakes their hand for approximately three seconds -- never more than five -- and walks probably seven feet until she has to repeat the agonizing process again.

It's absolute hell.

It's her life.

It surely isn't the worst thing she's gone through during her time on this planet. It's not even the most tedious (but it's a close contender). That medal goes to having to watch her mother suffer for Tsu's entire life. Having to witness her father grow more and more desperate and heedless as her mother's sickness refused to loosen its grip despite how much money and time he spent on cures. Having to sit there, unable to do jack shit to help absolutely anyone (not even herself) as her world shattered around her, each shard piercing her skin hard enough to draw blood but not deep enough for anyone else to notice, not after Tsu slapped a bandage over it in the form an "I'm fine, thanks for asking" and a smile.

(She always has to thank them. Always. It would be rude not to, her father's voice echoes in her ears. You don't want our people to think we're rude, do you, my storm cloud?

So, no, having to entertain the apologies and grievances and ingenuous words of comfort isn't the most gruelling work she's done in her life. It's inconvenient, yes, but it's whatever. It's fine.

At least, it's fine until it becomes abundantly clear that the Kitsuren people are growing hungry and agitated not because a worldwide shortage, but because Tsu's father has been spending the money meant for resources on mysterious outside ventures.

She really just can't catch a break.

Headcanons n stuff:

- Nami is basically the personification of the phrase "kill them with kindness." also "gaslight gatekeep girlboss"

- hates her long hair because it takes too long to make it nice n pretty everyday, but she can't cut it because it's important to Kitsuren culture for royals to have long hair. (but you better believe the first thing she does after she becomes monarch & changes how shit works is cut her hair.)

- everything she does is pretty. like even after she exercised or cried for hours she still looks heaven-sent. the only exception to this is when she eats. which is a lot. she greatly values food and likes to refer to herself as a connoisseur of it.

- addicted to sour gummies & is convinced that they're one of the only good things humanity has created

- has a compromised immune system thanks to a birth defect (the same that had ended up killing her mother years after Nami's birth), which causes her shapeshifting and siren abilities to essentially malfunction while she's sick, and therefore has to be kept out of sight whenever she is.

- also has survivor's guilt because of how her mother died

- gets lonely very easily, as her father refuses to let her spend time with anyone who's not in some way employed by him (aka anyone who's not a boring suck-up). this has also stunted her social skills, so even after her father lets up on this rule, she doesn't quite know what to do when it comes to socializing with others. to this day, she struggles with eye contact (typically preferring to look right under the other person's eyes so they don't notice it), maintaining non-business conversations, and not appearing like a total asshole. but she's working on it (kinda).

- one time, during the planning of taking over her father's reign as monarch, he tells Tsu that he thinks her mother would be proud of her. she doesn't quite know how to react. she ends up exiting the room after her father goes back to his paperwork, movements stiff and breaths slow. she ends up crying herself to sleep that night, soaking her pillow with silent tears.

- Tsu's father calls her his "storm cloud" (used to be "little storm cloud" when she was younger) because of how ill-tempered she could be.

little note: if I end up winning this one, I might end up making her skin more tan to fit her lifestyle a bit more :) let me know if that wouldn't be okay!
