First off I’m pretty well versed in Pokémon, so chances are (depending on the game/anime) I might be pretty familiar with your character already ;)
But if not, my canon character development is very similar from how I study OCs to write commissions!
Here’s info about my writing method on doing canon characters
First I ask you to give me a description of how you see the character as part of the commission form (because sometimes canon interpretations are a bit different from fanon) and how they would interact with your OC.
I then do research on the character themselves via their show/anime/wiki to get a good sense of personality and mannerisms!
Finally I work via drafts, doing chunks of about a third of the fic in each one. Every time I finish a draft I send it over to the commissioner so they can request any changes they might want— which includes characterization. If this canon character is someone you hold dearly, I trust you know them way better than me! So any changes in dialogue or actions that you might think necessary I change and learn from for the next drafts <3
I can’t assure I can be 100% accurate in a character I’m not familiar with, but I do my research and I use your feedback to give you a characterization you are happy with >:)
