yo! know a thing or two about the 50's? im working on a historical fiction comic based on 1950s las vegas and im trying to make it somewhat accurate lol! anything from the life in the 50s to more specific things i could ask but ya ill start with that!
MY FAVORITE DECADE HI I loveee writing 50s stories and I’d love to help with research. What questions do you have? I usually study pop culture. What part of Las Vegas are you focusing on? Researching the history of Vegas‘ gambling scene would be cool. You got Elvis‘ viva Las Vegas in there hehe
HIIII OKAY!! the story focuses on the las vegas strip/city and the skyrocketing rise in popularity of gambling and casinos (in las vegas especially since from what ive seen it was one of the only places gambling was allowed at the time). heres a lot to cover so ill just start with family life and what common family issues were there to i can get an idea of what goes on in the characters family lives (for those with families)? also just general fun stuff like clothing, how houses looked like, music, etc! im also trying to research how casinos worked in the 1950s, but its hard finding stuff like how the hiearchy of jobs in casinos were bc all i get is modern stuff since what im trying to find is so specific what stuff was legal and illegal back in that time and how the police dealed with crimes. was it easier for people to get away with crimes ? lastly how money was wired. like how much things costed, common jobs, was it easy for people to afford cars/houses etc? thats a lot but TO SUMMARIZE : family life, how casinos worked, law enforcement/crimes, money . i can dm you how the story is working out so far also since its a bit complicated lol! ive already done some research so i have a good idea but theres a lot of gaps rn
clothes is one thing I’m like an expert on. I’ve never researched Vegas specifically but it’s so fun to research for stories I’m currently doing one on Chicago in the 70s and It’s awesome. Price inflation is also a random thing I fixate on sometimes, I actually have a book that might help hold on let me look for it
