*excited jumping up and down* I just figured out Sam’s regiment~ (unfortunately this means that all his Eastern Theatre stuff is non-canon, and now I have to come up with a reason why bro from the Western Theatre would be at the Appomattox surrender, in order for him to meet Charles)
The regiment is the 39th North Carolina Infantry Volunteers, and he’d be in Company E, which was mostly comprised of men from Clay County, such as himself
That was the plan—it would be a temporary trip—or I was considering that he would get a furlough and end up in Appomattox County around the time (but then he would have to go back to the Western Theatre for a bit, since the war continued in that part until April 26). It shouldn’t be too hard to finalize a reason so at least that’s a plus
