YES they were based aroiund the chinese zodiac originally, him the snake ofc! i was kind of thinking of the orignal myth of the race in chinese zodiac mythology, and in some versdions the snake uses the horse to secure its spot in the race. so i dont have any super specific ideas but maybe someoine who is smart but kind of conniving/untrustworthy LOL . giving evil henchman a little but in a likable way
