i think outfit is quite a defining feature for the character as it tells a lot about their lifestyle, personality, background, so many things, and creating too many outfits might lead to sort of losing that well defined identity - unless of course being fashion-forward and having big wardrobe is a character's main focus. most people irl have a small set of favorite clothes and it's gonna be the same for most characters. the most outfits i saw for one character was one or two main ones, + one for cold weather, + one for hot weather, + lounge wear, + formal attire
If you know me in any capacity, you probably know I like to give my characters huge wardrobes. This has made me wonder: what OC on Toyhouse or other sites has the largest wardrobe out there? Right now, I am aiming for my newest OC Hillary to have 150+ outfits and there is a remote possibility it could reach 200.
To add to the very good points above i also think the amount of outfits might be hard to judge for many characters, because their exact individual clothing items arent established. Id say usually people have a certain idea of which style, materials, colours their character would wear and then draw random outfits picture to picture based on that, rather than drawing out the entire wardrobe first
(Also a nitpick is that "outfit" and "clothing item" are two different things. You can make many different outfits from just few repeating items just by combining, styling and accesorising them differently)
