Anyone here really into Myers-Briggs personality types and the cognitive functions that go with them? For me it's almost like a hobby, and I was wondering if anyone else here is really into it. I recently typed all my characters, and it's really helping me write their descriptions. I'm an INFP.
yeah i think it's pretty interesting. ive sort of generally known about mbti for a few years but i only started learning about the functions recently bc i found a website that said i had the same type as holden caulfield (infp) and i was,, deeply offended lmao and they were using functions to explain it so I started looking into it so i could understand the explanations. I think knowing about cognitive functions also makes the whole thing a lot easier to understand like with the 16personalities stuff i would get moderate scores on a lot of the letters which made it more difficult try to figure out my type. I've typed a lot of my characters too some of them that and their pronouns are basically their entire bio lol
I'm not crazy into it because its accuracy is questionable and it's far too simple for our complex personalities. But that doesn't stop me from labeling a bunch of characters. I will use MBTI types until the day I die because it's fun. The types are usually a great place to start working out a personality for me and I tack on whatever I feel is needed after. It also serves as an overview of sorts for my characters, you can get a feel for them by looking up their MBTI. There's just usually more in their bio to make them a bit more complex. Also mine is ISTJ

Shiva: ESTJ? 3w4 1w9? 7w6? so/sp
Ares: ESTP 8w7 7w8 4w3 sx/so (mistypings: INTJ/ENTJ bc strategic, sp/sx or sx/sp bc edgy)
Gaea: ENFP 7w8 4w3 8w7 so/sx (mistypings: idk yet maybe 2 core bc helpful)
Lophius: INTJ p6w5 4w5 9w1 sp/sx (mistypings: idk )
Thanatos: INTJ 9w8 4w5 5w4 sp/sx (mistypings: INTP bc lazy, ISTJ bc likes to be cozy, ENTJ or ISFP from function scrambling, INFJ from dichotomy and he is emotional, sx/sp)
i enjoy enneagrams as well. im a 5w4, 549... (4w5, 9w8)
pretty much normal for my type, but it fits i guess
i haven’t met very many ISTJs before in my lifetime. how would you describe yourself, personally? when and why did you first figure out what functions you identified with fit?
