How do you sort your folders?

Exactly what the title says! How do you Sort your Character folders, or do you use folders at all?

I have one special one for my Sona, then

Mains

>(Sub folder) species

Secondary

Species

For sale/ trade

I'd like to see what other people do, because I'm sure there's an easier way out there than what I do ^^

hello~

so since my ocs have their own worlds or "storylines" or w/e , I sort them by that. So one group of ocs had their own idea and another group of ocs is another idea, etc. The only ones that are more lenient are the fandom ocs and the chemistry ocs, they're just grouped that way to keep those together xD I don't really feel like sorting them further within each folder because that's just too organized lol

By story

then by which part of the story they start in (numbered, lol)

all my adopted babs go into one folder because none of them are part of any overarching story I have so, it works out.

I sort by story/timeline.

My parent folders are Historical and Hivescape (Hivescape being the nickame I give my big sci-fi story).

Historical is sorted by era so I'll have a sub-folder for Age of Sail era OC's and another for WW2 era OC's.

Hivescape is sorted into stories since I have 3 storylines within this universe, each story gets it's own folder.

I also have a folder for game characters which has a sub-folder for each game/fandom I intend to make fan OC's for to keep them separate from my OC's.

I used to sort by character activity (mains/secondary/tertiary) but activity doesn't really mean anything to me because I am so slow and post infrequently so it didn't really help me organize my OC's as much as having them sorted by story/timeline does.

I have a toooon of designs so I first divide them kind of into like mains , secondaries, not using, and then each of THOSE into separate story folders! ;v; I try to be really organized yet not use too many folders, incase someone is not interested in clicking all the folders

I also use the tagging system to tag active vs inactive ocs! I noticed a lot of people don't use tags for many things, but I think they are useful!

oh that's pretty cool :U! besides some fandom based ocs (like pokemon or gemsonas) I don't have a lot of characters that belong to a specific universe. Especially my sona, since I tend to roleplay with a lot of people, and some like to do futuristic things, while others go mideval, all that jazz.

That did remind me, I should probably make a fandom based folder too, thanks for your input :D (I should try making some worlds as well. I saw that tab but just...never got to it I guess?)

aska-ray

oooh thats rad! do you write your stories solo, or do you go by how far along a roleplay or something like that is?

@Hivemindz

wow! that's pretty in depth, and hella organized, I admire that. I'd love to hear more about this hivescape world if you ever have time, or have a link to drop where I can go read about it :D

Saraza

ohhh man, I totally forgot about the tagging system :s I've so far only tagged occasionally, or the characters I've traded have come with tags. I should probably do more of that lol, it would keep things organized, and people could figure out what exactly I have easier lol

aska-ray

Meeka hehe nah I don't roleplay much, I'm not too much of a fan but I do plan/write a lot of stories by myself! :)

Right now I'm (very slowly...) writing summaries to all the parts of my stories, so....that can be fun

I sort by story, too, since I'm more concerned about who a character is in context of their tales rather than who I use "mainly" and "not so mainly" and so forth, but I think it all depends how someone connects to characters. Some are more story-centric connections and some are more personality based.

ElithianFox

I only sort characters in one primary folder and don't use subfolders, as I know that the second I see a gallery with both folders and subfolders I close that one out of not wanting to click 20 times to see a person's characters I'd be interested in. My main folders are generally species based, and I personally prefer keeping further specification to tags through making a handy tag directory that's more detailed than folders! ;v;

Sadismancer

I don't really use folders. Just two. One for retired characters and one for fan characters.

atempause

every character group has its own folder and then they are kinda sorted by tags even tho I only bother tagging mains

I dislike subfolders lmao, one is enough to cover the entire thing imo

Kirbygal

thanks ~ lol I have a bunch of varied ideas so there's a set of ocs for what I come up with xD

I think worlds are use for a lot of rp stuff; I've seen some people use it to explain their ocs specific stories or their own worlds as well, especially if it is a fantasy world.  I tried making one as a test run but I was real confused about it xDD

RU-HX

I've gotta admit I have a terrible habit of over-complicating things - if I can get excessively detailed I will so it was hard not to go more in-depth with character sorting than I already have. :'D

Sure thing, I sent you a PM with some info!
