My Little Pony discussion?

Posted 5 years, 9 months ago by FreeFallingUp13

I recently got into MLP and I just wanna talk about ponies qwq I've never been involved in the fandom (or any for that matter) but my friends aren't into MLP and I wanna talk/gush about the show and pony characters.

My only requests are no nsfw topics and no season 8 spoilers (I'm only able to watch the show on American Netflix, which doesn't have season 8 up).

Anyways, questions that I've always wondered about;

What do you guys think about MLP OC designs? Personally, I love pony designs that actually look like they'd be in the show, rather than having super complicated markings. I recently realized with the help of Next-Gen adoptables that there are ponies with markings in the universe (like Troubleshoes!) so I'm fine with some markings, I guess.

What are your favorite episodes? Favorite characters? How come?

Are there any qualms you've got with the show (or that the community has with the show that I don't know about yet)? I know it's technically a kids show, but there's probably a couple things that don't make sense even for a kid's show.

Caine Ah, it's good that you have such supportive parents! Mine thought my anime interest when I was younger was kind of strange, too. If you do get into Equestria Girls, I recommend the second movie, Rainbow Rocks! The entire movie is centered around music, and, honestly, it's much more fun than the first movie. They're all on Netflix, too!

JamesEatsPlayDoh People were angry about her becoming an alicorn? Why? I thought it was kinda neat, I didn't know before any of that that becoming an alicorn was earned.
G'dawh, I remember the DnD episode. That one was adorable. I was so amused when I was reading in the comics and it turns out Shining Armor is a HUGE DnD nerd, too. The Mane 6 really needs to lighten up, man. They're missing out.
Yeah, that's the aspect I can tell is what Twicord is all about! Twilight definitely needs to relax. I just think of it as more of a friends thing since that's something that all the characters taught her and not just Discord.
Aaaaah I need to find the movie, hecktm I see a lot about Tempest but I can't find the movie a n y w h e r e. It sounds like it's super cool, I can't wait to finally find it.

Dolce I actually somewhat tried to get into MLP before FiM! I bought a toy, but my parents weren't very clear about the fact that it was a toy we were picking out for donating Toys for Tots. I never picked another pony toy after that c,: (I was like... five, I didn't entirely get the concept.) I knew MLP was a thing, but I kind of never saw it after that. It wasn't as popular as Barbies or Neopets. Then I heard about Rainbow Dash over and over again and was like "Oh, they look different now." It was a weird jump from the realistic designs to the ones they are now.
Cadence is a wonderful character! I love her design, and she's super nice in an older sibling kind of way. I wish they'd use her more than just "that one mom princess that's around sometimes".
Achk, cutie mark designs are always so cool! People come up with really interesting ones and I'm just like hhhhhh ho w w w is it so g o o d

@LitaRutherford AAAAA You're talking about Loppodity! I absolutely LOVED that piece, it was gorgeous and the message nearly made me cry qwq That piece is this one; It's About Having Fun~ Her art inspired me to start getting MLP Ocs as well, now I gotta figure out what to do with them all.

The Winter Wrap up song is super cute! I was humming it when spring came around this year. It's stuck in my head again now, oops-

Pinkie Pie is a really fun character, though it's off-putting for me. That's just because I'm not one for gigantic excitement and energy. Or events where I'll be around loads of people :,) But I can see why people like her! Positivity is a great quality, and having fun is something everybody needs to do every once in a while.

Which episodes did you think were "non-kids" centered? I'm curious. They do handle more than just "These people are in a fight, so we have to help them be friends again!" but I found them to be more like simplified ways of teaching kids how to deal with situations like that (just because the problems would get solved so easily).

Chyoatas

oh they were, super mad. i dont remember much exactly- i think a lot of it was that they thought it didnt make sense or that it made her a mary sue :p

ahhh i really need to read the comics!!! i got a whole bunch online from humble bundle but i havent read em yet :'D id looove more dnd episodes... it was so much fun!!!

and yeah thats fair :D

the movie was pretty nice- the plot actually wasnt too bad? i dont think anyone was disappointed! except for this one review i read that was horrible. they clearly hadnt read the show. embarrassing.

JamesEatsPlayDoh heck I just googled "MLP Comics" and read a bunch of issues for free, I'm broke as hell <~>
I can see where that argument comes from, but Twilight was pointed out several times to be Celestia's prized student, so it's not like something super special WASN'T going to happen lol

heaven oooh that looks super neat! I haven't seen many alicorn characters with lore yet, just adoptables so far. That concept is awesome!
Aaaaah another Sunset fan qwq She's my favorite EG, too. Her redemption arc has been so g o o d, and I love her design!
The Countess episode was super cool! I loved that it showed that just because people are being helped out by awful people, doesn't mean that the person themselves are awful. That, and famous/well-known people can make mistakes with who they let near them and fix that! That's one of the episodes that made me c r y heck and the songs were so good!

Alright let's hope my internet doesn't die this time when I try to talk about Rarity, third time's the charm *cracks knuckles*
I actually super love Rarity. I never grew up being interested in fashion, but the way it was presented with Rarity made me super curious and now I'm kind of into it. For somebody who never went past a cute sweater and jeans, I'm now super-impressed by fashion c:
I got a couple of toys because I wanted to try and make clothes for them. I figured it would be neat and maybe I could sell them to other people who were interested in the same thing. (As for the results? Spoiler alert - I can't sew to save my life.)

Sobbloo

Yes! That's the artist. I just love their work, they have such a great style and such amazing designs.

I'm not either, really, which is weird why I gravitate towards her. I'm not usually a huge fan of pink either. XP but she's a little off kilter and I think that's why I like her. Like she's really happy all the time but that isn't her default, she's got issues and I feel like a lot of her excitement is intentional.  that sort of "I don't feel great all the time so lets make everyone else feel awesome and then I feel better because of it!" kind of thing.

Mmmm not necessarily non-kid centered, just certain elements that pop out as odd in a kids show, and maybe a little over the line. I know kids generally only see what they understand so I don't think any of these things popped up as alarming to any kids, just stuff that's like "Oh...wow" (They are usually the things I point out to people when I mention that adults can watch it and like it to) I'm bad with episode names but in the one where Rainbow Dash ends up in the hospital and finds out she likes reading the Daring Doo books and breaks into the hospital to steal their copy. When she is chased and then it's reveled she was being chased by the doctor, nurse, and an "insane" pony barking like a dog.  And Pinkie Pie in, I think it was called Party for One? When everyone is planning a surprise party for her but she thinks they all hate her and goes a little off the deep end.  It started off what I'd sorta expect from a kid show, basically showing you can't assume things and just cause your friends aren't talking to you or hanging out with you doesn't mean they hate you....but how kinda off she went was a little surprising to me at the time for sure.

FreeFallingUp13

Oh yeah! I remember those episodes. You're right, those were super weird. I can get that they were trying to make it a zany situation, b u t those episodes haven't aged well xP Party for One freaked me out.
I agree Pinkie's more serious side is very interesting considering her usual personality, but I think I never got into it because it came up so rarely. Maybe I should rewatch the episodes that do talk about it again.

@Casinopolis I've tried PonyTown, I just don't get it .3. Seems like there's not that much to do so far.

Fizbunz

I used to watch the show in the past, but I don't really anymore sadly. I really like Luna though, and Apple-jack is pretty cool. I am mostly into the fan stuff, especially Lopoddity's, their stuff is really cool! I especially enjoy all the unique ocs that people make, personally I don't mind super complicated or simple designs, whatever makes anybody happy makes them happy! I definitely need to make/get some more mlp ocs, I only have one at the moment.
