Founded as a simple city in the 1980s after two sisters, Calista Caligula and Amaryllis Caligula, both CEOS of a very powerful architecture and wellbeing firm, became tired of their normal city life and how the government didn't serve the people correctly-putting their monetary gain BEFORE citizens wellbeing. They moved out to a very uninhabited, empty small continent in the Northern Hemisphere, buying the whole thing and setting up roots. Caligula, the main city of this continent which they now call Aranthe. It was founded on three principles.
1. ACCEPTANCE.
Rights for anyone to be anything and everything they want. Accepting other citizens as they are, no matter what they wear or what their opinions are-of course, to a point. To be open and inviting to anyone, regardless. This will ensure Caligula to be a kind and uplifting environment for ALL people.
2. ABILITY.
Caligulans should all be allowed equal opportunities-no matter their social status, job title, or monetary income. But, this should not be to take away from others hard work and effort towards the Utopia, and there should still be rewards for such things.
3. AUTHENTICITY.
Caligula should be a city for the people, so there should be a continuous goal to create this feeling. An authentic city, an authentic community, is what us Caligulans strive for, whether one lives above or underground should not matter. Even the CEOS which one looks up to should be authentic, and very down to earth. No matter what TV screen one is looking into, or what radio they are listening through.
After roughly 10 years of building up the city, Caligula had become a great success. Not only had very prolific artists and scientists from around the world come to bask in the rays of utopian success, they all pitched in in the creation of the ever growing amount of new technologies, buildings, and much more. Caligula continues to be amazing.
The year is somewhere in between 2200 and 2250. It is the future, yes, but it is not the future one would presume. Caligula is in a very mild climate, warm more often than not. It does not get snow here, but it does rain the odd day or two. The city is a long drive from the actual beach (but they have a stimulated beach environment underground in Anthea). There are surrounding cities, and many people do travel here for its sights and sounds. Many do not want to go back. It's known as the best of the best utopia and city wise, which is why so many people strive to get in.

Caligula, at its simplest level, has two sectors.
THE ABOVEGROUND SECTOR, is the much larger, more expansive and populated area. It is the main city, and is where 80% of the Caligula population lives. Therefore it tends to be the main hub of activity, with all the business and most of the headlining Caligulan events happening above. And, like the name says, this sector is completely aboveground. It basks in real sunlight, and real environments, unlike the stimulated ones that the underground strives to create.

Meanwhile, the UNDERGROUND SECTOR is a large, interconnected 'mall' of different, hugely underground sectors of activity. Each sector serves to provide a different use: from partying to a more chill retreat and artsy underground area, the Underground is a beautiful place as well-just with different, darker aesthetics (More information about the wings can be found in the underground roleplay categories in server, as well as our info document). Not many people actually live here, as the majority of people that work or come down during the day/night live aboveground. The people who do live underground are very intertwined and keep together as a tight group, but they also do come above ground every once in a while. The underground is not only a vacation destination or a retreat for some, it is also a place to let loose. A weekend getaway, a cool shopping trip, finding a deal, even? It makes things fun. Alongside this, the underground hosts some sick car races throughout its wings every few weeks, and it is heavily televised above AND underground. Even the CEOS have favourite racers, and like to bet on who's going to win next.
Caligula is a fully SFW human art/roleplay situated in a supposed utopia. It's inspired heavily by vaporwave and its subgenres, avant garde fashion, retro futurism, dead malls, and the 80s!

Anyone at any level of art/rp is allowed, and we host a continuous storyline every summer, as well as small things throughout the year (depending on everyones availability)! We are very casual and do not require a lot of activity to participate in the server, but do have chances for characters to be involved in events, plot happenings, and the like if this is something you'd be interested in! We have been active for around a year and a bit now, and are still looking to grow. Currently our server is open for everyone, and you do not have to have an OC in mind when joining-you can develop it in server, or just hang around and check us out.

Not sure if I missed it or not but; I saw mentions of a plot (along with hints at violence), but in the info posts didn't see anything about this. So what IS the plot? Is there shady goings-on in Caligula/The underground sector? Things the CEOs are trying to keep from the general populous, etc? 👀 It seems happy...Almost...too happy....
(sdfh for reals tho sounds v interesting and i'm keen to know a lil more!)
EDIT: I read a bit about Gomorrah but I wonder if there's more secret goings on in other wings/ if there's a plan for movement down there, etc?
Mas hey!!!! GOOD QUESTION! I don’t say anything in the info posts just because the initial plot was just a big surprise to everyone and I like totally played into the ‘everything is too good to be true’ thing (aside from us saying everything initially in triggers), but I can definitely outline some stuff that’s happened in our first arc last summer! I’m not sure how to spoiler stuff on here because I’m somewhat inept at this website BWJAHAJHA but. lemme outline some stuff. thank you for asking!
a lot of it did revolve around Gomorrah and a small group of people down there taking out their resolve on the aboveground because they feel they were ignored and forsaken, especially some shunned CEOs and public figures. It’s mostly an unspoken rule for the CEOs to consistently cover up Wing Five because it is technically unfinished and will Never be completed, due to a terrible accident that happened with Amaryllis (one of the founding sisters of the city) down there. We’ll keep it kind of ambiguous but it was definitely an accident, and the reason they don’t continue to build down is for peoples safety and just because shit had become super unstable, even way way back then. Amaryllis was namely very VERY ambitious and had even planned many more wings than five, and this ambition unfortunately was what killed her. God there is SO much I like don’t even know where to go from here without typing a five paragraph essay all you need to know is it happened AGAIN and someone from aboveground managed to get to wing five, where they ultimately met their demise in a freak accident where the tunnel caved in (which is actually fucking brutal) and was only more cause for outrage once the CEOs realized what happened and were unsure how to actually deal with it, especially because they discredited claims of this mystery wing before. Our finale was esentially the breaking point of this in which the main CEO was basically Assassinated by someone who lives down there 😔 he becomes her intern and he realizes that she’s a normal person but him shooting her is a complete accident in the end, which is……. Agh. AGHHHHH. A LOT. But it’s literally my brainworm.
I need to make that in depth summary a real thing because it was so so much but it was SO great honestly, we did a ton of really interactive events so even if this kind of seems like a static plot we are totally for people shooting their ocs into plot somehow, and it’s been literally so great even if we are a smaller group!! If there’s anything specifically you want to know more about I’d love to elaborate on anything though! ^___^<3
Hey, I just want to let you know that literally everything in purple is impossible to read on the dark theme. I'd suggest removing the color formatting so it'll adapt to the theme of anyone reading, or at least putting the text into boxes that you can give light backgrounds and will stay that color regardless of theme, if only for the sake of accessibility.
