i'll clean this up pretty later; flip the order - start with the ruling houses
- The Lepe Family is one of the oldest noble families besides the Aensland Clan. Its master disappeared into the gate 2000 years ago and has since been replaced. They have control over the area surrounding and including Gilala Gila.
- The Maximoff Family is lead by Demitri, an ambitious vampire who challenged Belial for his throne. When he lost the battle, he and his castle full of servants and stewards were banished to the human world. Demitri has been trying to return to Makai ever since.
- The Hartland Family is lead by Gregorio Hartland who is considered the most handsome noble in all of Makai. He is served by women and leads a hedonistic lifestyle. Mejina is his female officer, a dutiful servant and bodyguard.
- The Kreutz Family appear the least human of the noble families and are in direct opposition to the Hartlands. Their master, Xell Kreutz, is a beastly winged dragon. They are barbarous combatants.
- The Drey Family is lead by Taurus Drey, a collector in Makai who was the former owner of Hannya and Kien - a cursed samurai armor and sword. It can be assumed they are interested in historical artifacts and archaeology throughout Makai.
- The Gilman Family headed by Sierra de Gilman are studious and scholarly. Their master is a philosopher who wrote many books, including "The Beginning of Darkness", speaks 78 world languages, and is able to use 1400 different spells.
- The Funechika Family is a group of martial artists. Their master holds the 666th level in Makenpo. Their people hold great respect for the mind, and as a result many lack true battle skills or experience.
Then, of course, are the ruling houses themselves:
- The Aensland Clan is the oldest noble line in Makai, tracing back to the very first Emperor. Morrigan Aensland, a 300 year old succubus adopted by Belial, now holds the seat of her clan and must become responsible where she was once flighty and careless. (expand)
- The Voshtal Clan was previously lead by Galnan, who was best known for his extensive information network throughout all of Makai's land. Galnan died as the oldest noble on record, a staggering 32,000 years; he was known as a tyrant but respected for his intelligence, his summoning spells, hypnotizing powers that could overtake lesser nervous systems, and used his information network to become the "Guard of Makai". With his death the nobles began to panic and fight among each other to fill the void that Galnan left.
- The Dohma clan, once lead by the youngest of the noble rulers, a 6000 year old demon named Jedah, was always well respected but following Jedah's disappearance the house was overtaken by his servant, Ozom, who has been a selfish and wasteful demon only interested in dining on the most delicious souls.
