I was looking to make a side account for eventual coding storage since I am currently teaching myself web design in my downtime and I noticed a ton of cute usernames were taken by accounts that were sorta... made and never used? Like they're over 4 years old and they don't have a profile or any art or designs. I have no real way to see if they're just hanging out or not so that's valid if they are but maybe there can be a way to appeal for a "dead" name for lack of a better term? I'm not exactly sure how it would work honestly so I know im just screaming into a void and not offering a solution to this problem but. aa.. My first thought is if someone is tagged for an "activity check" after x (long time value) and they dont reply within a month or two Y happens?

Just use a different name, people won't at all about your name 99% of the time ; I wanted to use bloodworm, couldn't get it, used bloodwyrm. If you use a very common word such as a person / animal , place or thing then yeah it'll obviously be taken.

I'm not that active here anymore and thought about taking a break/leaving for a while, I do not wish to come back to my account closed AND my name stolen. I had the same issue as you but on Instagram, where I created a list of 30+ usernames (including uncommon names like my current username), all were taken by inactive accounts, so I came up with new ones until I eventually found one that wasn't taken and didn't sound too bad. It sucks yeah, but it's not a good reason to delete someone's account, especially on a closed website.
