Tips on getting your designs noticed?

Posted 1 year, 11 months ago by ever adrift

Hey y'all! I've been on toyhouse for years and every time I change accounts I've always struggle with this one thing; getting my own designs noticed!

I was wondering if anyone else had this same issue when making or selling designs or even getting your own characters noticed. It also be appreciated if anyone could tell me what I can do to try and boost the interactions with my designs specifically!!

Thanks!! I hope someone finds this thread and gets some good info - If I gather enough I'll write a full article on this to help others.

For sales, I'd recommend adding relevant tags to the designs. People can search tags when looking for designs and it might help them find yours.  Also remember to set your adopts for sale/trade/etc via trade listing under the 'Manage Character' tab. I've seen people sometimes forget to do that lol.

You can also create a thread for your design sales/adopts in the Design Marketplace forum and advertise them there!

There are also several TH discord servers you can join and advertise on if you're on discord. ;v;  I'd recommend the Art Bubble server rn, it seems to be pretty active. I'm sure there are more you can find in the General & Off-Topic forum.

I struggle with this myself, but I've noticed that just interacting with people (here and other platforms) helps a lot

Also I've noticed that if you do a raffle and give extra entries by making people sub to you or stuff like that, it boosts you at least a little bit (haven't tried myself yet but I've seen a lot of people do that)

I've only been selling adoptables for around 2 weeks but I think I can give some advice on them. Most of my designs sell in 2 minutes so I must be doing something right lol. I currently only sell on Deviantart and the toyhouse design marketplace. I'd recommend advertising your adopts on the design marketplace if you're starting out. It's a great way to get noticed since forums don't depend on your follower count.

I strongly agree with Vlxen's comment. Starting off with cheap and simple designs is the way to go. I'd also recommend starting off with set-price adoptables instead of auctions. I feel like auctions are for when your designs become more in demand. They're kind of a hassle to participate in and maintain (in my opinion) so people might not want to put in the effort to bid on your designs in the beginning.

I'd also try to appear as friendly and personable as possible. A lot of adoptable artists make it too obvious that they're only doing this for the money. It comes off as a bit too greedy and turns off a lot of potential buyers. Respond to comments with sincerity and talk about your design process a little bit. In your description, you could write a little bit about your inspirations or the struggle of making them. Basically, don't come off as a corporate businessman, be the friendly local artist who just wants to share cool designs.

P.S. if you make that article message or ping me about it 👀
