Before the Founding:
Country X thought it would be a good idea to make a new city that was highly intergrated with technology. They invited all the leading technology institutions to come and work ~*~in the name of science~*~ on this new city. Many different projects were undertaken, the city blossomed. It was a hub for technology and experiments that were probably not ethical and students and academia and all sorts of stuff. However, with the govermental subsidides and stuff, there was a lot of red tape they could not cross thus...

Founding of Daeles
Leader-Sama sucessfully leveraged Eve, aka the walking EMP nuclear bomb, against Country X and basically the world to get independence for Daeles. Its something like a sweet city-state deal where they do their own things and yeah okay Leader-sama is super savvy. At that time they'd already lost control of Eve, but Leader-sama was smart enough (read: ballsy) to bet on the fact that no world leader would really understand the concepts behind it so they just went along w it and got independence for the city.

Nowadays
Daeles is a powerful city-state akin to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, but perhaps most like Singapore in that it is an independent city-state that is well regarded around the world. Fiercly independent, citizenship is tightly controlled and most times you have to be invited in. But they let people who get in illegally stay because that means they have the talent needed. The city has a lot of social services, internet is free, academia runs rampant. Its like a giant research university scaled up.

Random Facts

  • Daeles is built on a platform above the river delta. Underneath it is a great nuclear reactor that supplies much of the energy. The area between the reactor and the city is called the Undercity.
  • Timeline is ~20 years since the start of the project.
  • Leader-sama is the realist holding this boat of bleeding heart liberal idealists together.
  • The streets are some mix of PV Cells (solar energy) but also have holographic displays, same probably of either windows or building materials. The random windturbines sit attop roofs or whatnot. The city itself generates a lot of electricity, but their usage is also really high hence to nuclear reactor.
  • Maglev transportation system because I said so.
