How do you add backgrounds to your profile??

So I'm confused. I want to add a background to my profile instead of it just being a plain white background how do I add a code or how to I add a background so instead of it being white it's a wallpaper/background design. I'm wanting to figure out how to do it. But I'm having a hard time looking for codes that would be able to change the background.
