ask about our fantasy setting perhaps ?

hi my focus has shifted to my & my partner's fantasy world setting & i can't think of anything else, so i'm going to be really annoying about it <3

we've been slowly adding more things to exulas! fair warning it's still a very big work in progress, but we're getting there & getting to talk about it is a good way to motivate us to actually write everything down, so please feel free to have a little look around at the world pages & the characters we have there, & maybe ask us some things about it! :D or just tell us what you think :3

i myself can't do 'your oc's life in' things bc my attention span for it is Awful, but if you're looking for that, my partner has a thread for it here! & if you're coming from that thread, hi! :D if you have any questions about anything your oc was assigned, here's the best place to ask! <3

AAAA that's so cool! The interactive map was so fun and I enjoyed looking through the glossary and characters! And the background images omg - so pretty, y'all did such a great job on all the worldbuilding. I'm curious how long it's taken so far because I'm working on my own worlds currently and I can only imagine :'D

Top tier read, Exulas is worldbuilding goals fr fr

torrikor

hsin !!!! thank you!!! i'm so glad the map works okay, sorry that it leads to a lot of blank pages at the moment, we're working on it 😭🙏 & that's reminded me actually, there's a few more things we need to add to the glossary :0

it's taken,,, quite a while i'm gonna be honest :"D that's partially just because we develop everything between the two of us so a lot of things just get spoken about and not written down straight away, & i'm kinda anal about making sure all the coding is up to par (i do most of the code tweaking, i know what i'm doing i promise (<- lying) ) so it's,,, slow but steady! :D i find trying to focus on specific chunks at a time & having a priorities list helps, it can get overwhelming quite quickly otherwise - i'd love to see the world you're working on if you post it!! :D 👀

HIIII GUESS WHO'S BACK. i will forever sing exulas' praises - on virtue of me being so very normal about elves, how do the different elven communities interact with each other? :O when/if they do.. are they hostile to each other, do they cooperate, or do they just ignore each other like two cats passing each other on the street?

calimaricutlery

hsin aaaa thank you sm for such nice comments!! they mean so much especially given how major of a wip the page still is TAT

we first started doing this as a singular roleplay just to throw kóri and varen into, so we’ve not started actively working on developing it as a world until recently which means it’s Technically been like,,, a year or two in development. but only Properly started a few months ago when we started to put other ocs in there lmao but yeah seconded i’d love to see your worldbuilding stuff if you ever want to show it ^^

torrikor

angeliic_gestalt HII (i'm sorry it's taking me so long to reply on the other thread i haven't forgotten i promise 🙏🙏🙏🙏)

the elven communities don't tend to interact that much, actually! the main ones, at least - they're baaically on different sides of the country 😭 wood elves primarily reside in & originate from alotin & the rossevaine forest, & high elves are primarily in tauves. there's. a few other elf varieties we just dont have much on them yet </3

usually if they're interacting, it'll be in bigger cities like edosa, they're never actively hostile towards each other but there is an underlying,, competitiveness? in a way? it's like interacting with your weird little sibling except both of them think that the other is the weird little sibling skdksbdbn they're more likely to go out of their way to cooperate if they have a common cause! like,, idk. bitching about something. the mfers in the capital keep having revolutions smh it's really fucking with the high elven class system 🙄

hsin

torrikor absolutely no worries lol, i can already tell y'all put a lot of work into it regardless! i'm excited to see what gets added in the future :D

a priority list would be helpful, thank you for that tip! i've been using literatures to organize mine, but they're all bare-bones/full of plot holes right now so I don't have them public just yet. I'm hoping once my final exams are done I'll have more time to work on them!

hsin

calimaricutlery Of course!

And I am (eventually ;-;) planning to publish my worldbuilding stuff, but it's all on private for now! The most I have is folder descriptions and a VERY messy assortment of word docs for drafting purposes LOL

angeliic_gestalt

YOU'RE OKAYYYY!!! AND LMAO i love that for them. i too will unite with my younger sibling if it's to bitch about someone else. am i just an exulian elf /JJJJ but jokes aside, that is rlly cool :O

I don't have any specific questions, but I really want to hear about orcs 👀

torrikor

chroniqueen okiedokie!! :D some general Orc Fun Facts!

- orcs are matriarchal; women & fem-aligned people are the collective heads of their communities, but the community is a collectivist culture - the entire village will contribute to raising children, settling disputes, and deciding communal rules.

- orcish communities can settle and adapt to most environments, although once a community has settled they are rarely truly driven out - the most well-known and biggest one in exulas is in anhae

- young orcs are usually tasked with a rite of passage, of sorts, when they’re on the verge of reaching maturity - this often involves leaving their community for a while to learn self-sufficiency and responsibility. this is called a ritok (in mebren, the most common orcish language) and while it isn't a strict rule anymore, a lot of orcish families still encourage it.

- kids aren’t really assigned genders, the kids decide - when this happens varies from kid to kid. orcs don’t care much about what gender they pick, but you can’t be head of your family unless you’re a woman or woman-adjacent.

- ^ on a similar note, jobs/roles/etcs aren't gatekept or anything, anyone can do anything so long as it's helpful in some way to the community, with the one exception of official leadership roles

- orcs are more likely to say a couple are good together if their names sound nice together, it’s considered good luck!

- surnames are matronymic; the mother’s name is adapted to the -inen suffix, although there are variations between different orc communities.

- kids are first given ‘fledgling names’, a bit like nicknames, and as they grow older and decide who they are, they're given/they get to choose their adulthood names - naming ceremonies are a big thing, they’re community-wide celebrations & a lot of orcs that settled elsewhere are usually invited back for them

very nice formatting! i would like to hear more abt kitsune. love magic shapeshifting foxes...

torrikor

LocalSnowi thank you!! :D kitsune are one of the lesser developed species we have at the moment, but i also love talking about them hehe

they're most common in anslas, they settled & evolved there after the volcano errupted/the phoenix was born and incinerated almost everything that was living there at the time, so they really dodged a bullet honestly. being in such close proximity to the magic core in the volcano for however many generations increased their magical capability overall, & a lot of kitsune don't tend to like leaving anslas because of it; the further away they get, the less powerful their magic tends to be. it's never nonexistent, but probably feels odd to have less of it if they're used to being directly next to the core all the time lshdnsj

there are a small handful of subtypes among kitsune - vervaine is one of them! they're the result of multiple generations of crossbreeding between kitsune and kemonomimi, but technically fall juuuust enough under the kitsune category to be classified as one.

kitsune are renowned for finding practical uses for their various innate magics, you'll often find them running their own magical businesses & using magic to facilitate daily living - moreso than many other people throughout exulas. they also just tend to be good problem solvers in general - several kitsune were some of the lead researchers in the team that figured out how to use falmere's magic core to power the entirety of esaridge way back when :D

that's all just,, off the top of my head, if you have any more specific things you'd like to know about anything please feel free to ask! :D

I'm a sucker for anything involving robots.  Can you tell me more about the automatons?
