Lore + Overview -- MYO/Voucher Info and Redemption

Traits are pretty flexible, and are designed to allow for many, many interesting combinations and uses.  So long as you don't directly contradict the general aesthetic of the species, you can do pretty much anything with the traits you can use.  Any questions can be directed to the replies of this Journal.

There are four types of traits that can be obtained through MYOs, Common, Uncommon, Rare and Magical.  The fifth type of trait, Unusual, can only be obtained through a trait voucher or a premade owl from a Guest Artist or the Founder.

Trait Vouchers for all trait tiers can be found as minor or major prizes anywhere you can get MYOs.

Note 1: A Feature is defined as one body part, a set of body parts, or an accessory.  Example:  You can have one or both eyes made of one material, but you cannot have one eye and one leg in one Feature slot.  A line of spines or a set of antlers also counts as one Feature slot.  Accessories do not have to be directly attached to the owl, but cannot float without an extra trait.

  • Masks are allowed, so long as you have at least one reference without it covering the face.
  • Carvings, raw and refined materials, etc. are allowed to be used as or on Features.

Note 2: Traits can be combined however you want.  Go wild!

Design Guidelines

Features all Nardeae Owls must have

  • Any kind of bird's body; this can be changed via an Unusual Trait, but it still must have some kind of birdlike features

  • No extra limbs, eyes or legs without other traits

  • Facial Disc, or, if the owl has an exposed skull, a skull directly modeled after a real owl skull.

  • At least a 25% coverage of grass

  • Natural colors, you can use greens, yellows and browns, but if you want a different color, you can look for real grass species that are different colors!

  • No genitalia, since no flesh from the original bird remains

Common Traits

Traits all Nardeae Owls can use!

  • Shaped Grass; Anything that changes the shape of the owl's grass, such as stiff braids, weaving, wing shape, tail shape, etc.

  • Dirt Patches; patches of bare 'skin' anywhere on the owl.  Limit is roughly 75% of the owl's surface area.

  • Plants and Fungus; any plants or fungus that aren't considered a type of grass.  These cannot cover more than 50% of the owl and can be in any natural form.  You can use parts of large plants, or shrink them to fit on the owl.

  • Wooden Features

  • Button Eyes; these do not count as material features and so can be any material.

  • Normal Owl Beak

Uncommon Traits

  • One Companion Creature; any animal smaller than the owl, including magical creatures

  • Exposed Skeleton; there must be enough dirt still attached to the bones to have the 25% grass coverage and if it is a skull, you must reference a real owl skull.

  • Animal Parts; Antlers, corals, feathers, shells, leather and bones all fall under this trait.

  • Stone Features; Gemstones and Crystals cannot be used for this trait

  • Fabric Features

  • Three Total Eyes

  • One Eye

Rare Traits

  • Many Eyes; limit of 20 total

  • Up to Three Companion Creatures

  • Dark Eyes

  • Metal Features

Magical Traits

  • Floating Accessories, Plants or Fungi

  • Elemental Effects

  • Crystal or Gemstone Features

  • Glowing Eyes

  • Bioluminescence; can be on the owl itself or other features.  Naturally bioluminescent plants or fungus do not fall under this trait and can be used like normal plants.

  • Magical Plants; Plants that have magical uses, but exist in the real world do not fall under this trait.

Unusual Traits

Unusual Traits are different from all the other tiers.  They can be anything that doesn't directly contradict the Universal Traits, the only exception being limb/body part numbers and body shape.  Meaning you can have six wings or paws with an Unusual Trait.  You still have to have a facial disk/owl skull and at least some birdlike features though.

Dyes and paints that aren't on Fabric Features, extra limbs and that cool eye design you came up with, all fall under Unusual Traits.  You can go pretty wild with these.

Unusual Traits can only be obtained by buying a premade owl from a Guest Artist or the Founder, or by getting an Unusual Trait Voucher, which can be obtained anywhere you can get MYOs.
