I think it could relate to the loss Marius felt over Koran's death, and how it affected him. The last line could even have a double meaning, referring to how his personality is a shell of what it used to be, but also his newfound purpose of protecting Joan.
Eden's constant loss makes me think of one of two lyrics one of which is more uplifting and optimistic than the other. The second is under a spoiler for having some dark/depressing themes.
