🎨Comment on the above artwork!

Posted 6 years, 1 month ago (Edited 6 years, 26 days ago) by Cryss

I don't think I saw a thread for this with this type of idea yet, so let's launch it! Similar to my comment on the above OC thread, this one's all about artwork. This thread will be moderated on my main, ElithianFox, please PM me there for any inquiries!

Playing conditions

  1. This game is more about getting someone's commentary about your artwork, rather than using a site's comment functionality. If you still wish to get the comment somewhere (dA, FA, etc.), feel free to link to the specific site you'd like it on, but keep in mind not everyone may have an account on an off-site place! In that case, the comment will just be posted in this thread.
  2. If you'd like to get the comment on TH, make sure your image comments and notifications are on. This can be done here, by scrolling underneath your profile's text.
  3. Only post your own artwork unless you have the explicit permission from the artist to post their artwork for commentary.
  4. Any artwork is okay, except explicit NSFW, gore, joke art, and potentially triggering content like self harm, suicide, and hate crimes. Even if it doesn't show an OC, art showing fanart, scenery, CS, real people, etc. all are fine!

How to play
  1. Post a comment in the thread to claim the above person. Make sure to also post a piece of art you want commentary on OR a link to your gallery, and to state which nature of comments you are okay with getting. The piece can be any art, doesn't have to include any OCs!
  2. Look at the artwork posted. Don't just glance over it, take a good look at it and interpret it as you see fit.
  3. Write out a thoughtful comment about the artwork that's at least a couple of sentences long.
  4. Edit your claim with your comment. If you commented on the source the person gave, also link the comment to that place!

Rules

▶︎ The nature of comment you write can be anything, but it must be positive in some way. This can include constructive comments as long as they're not mean. Some examples of comments you can write:

• Compliments
• Constructive critiques <Only when stated this is okay>
• Things that stood out about the art
• What you enjoyed about the art
• Elements like the colours, composition, technical details, etc.
• How the characters are drawn
• Questions about the creation process
• Feedback on how to further improve their art <Only when stated this is okay>
• Etc.

▶︎ Quality over quantity! Still your comment has to be at least a couple of sentences long with no limit on maximum length. "Cool" and "Nice artwork" comments are empty and not so pleasant to receive, so please explain what you like about the piece, why you think it's a cool piece, what your thoughts are on the art, etc.

▶︎ If applicable, reading the piece's description can help better appreciate the piece!

▶︎ Intentionally mean, passive aggressive, or dismissive comments are instantly met with a strike, or in the worst case a ban from the game. Please be mindful; would you enjoy receiving the comment you wrote?

▶︎ Only post your own art, or others' art of your OCs if they have given permission to be posted in this thread.

▶︎ Only critique people's art in your comment when they explicitly state they accept it. If you accept criticism, please do state so when you claim, otherwise it won't be given!

▶︎ This thread is only for OOC comments on the art, no IC ones this time.

▶︎ Please make an effort to respond to the comment you receive. Even if it doesn't say what you expected, a simple "Thank you!" should be the minimum of a response. You don't have to have or continue a conversation, but can aim for one regardless!

▶︎ You can post twice per page, or once every 24 hours, whichever takes longer. However, if the thread is stuck for over three days, this rule is voided.

▶︎ If you are a frequent poster, please stray from always posting the same piece of art to be commented on! That way there's a much larger chance you will be claimed compared to always posting the same piece.

This thread operates under a three strikes system. Writing very low effort comments, passive aggressive comments, or comments that simply aren't nice to receive will get you a strike and a PM warning, and three gets you blacklisted.

Oh where do do I start on this! The first thing that catches my eye are the colors, the blues greens white and browns work super well together! I really love that color scheme and you did it super well! The style is simple and that works really well with the minimal shading and gradient bg, the shanding makes the characters stand out really nicely too 💕 the white outlines and effects really tie everything together and I love the look they give. It’s also really nuce how you’ve conveyed the characters personalities in their expressions and poses! It’s a super cute piece, good job on it!!!

aa thank you for the crit! Yes the expressionlessness is intentional, it’s one of her character traits that you can’t read what she’s thinking :>

i think this style is super cute and i love how u've done the lines here! i think the mix of black, white, and coloured lines really makes the whole art look really well done! i also like how u made it look textured somehow? that plus the brush u used for the lineart makes it look like it was done on paper almost :D

something about the poses and expressions along with the overall art style makes this look quite expressive and i kinda wanna know the story behind it haha! the simple background makes the characters really stand out and the colours used for that work really well with the colours chosen for the characters, and the touch of adding a bit of darker colour behind the characters makes them pop out a bit too! it's almost like a paper cutout that's been placed on coloured paper and it looks really good ;w;

ik this is my icon, but it was the first manga-style art i did and i'm still pretty proud of it ;^^

I was actually meaning to compliment you on this for awhile! There si definitley a great manga feeling to it, your lines are excellent and I love the shading. I especially like the starkness of the black hair along with the dangly bits. The ear also catches my attention and I think your details are very nice. <3

This is my latest piece and I'm quite proud of it. Not looking for harsh criticism atm. :3

Ahh, I absolutely love this piece! The lighting and the way you pulled off the effects of the glowing arms are just beautiful! The speckles of light in the background are a really nice tough, makes it look like there’s fires around him! I feel like my one criticism I really have is the lines on his skin, I feel like they should be just a bit darker. But other than that, it’s absolutely wonderful! Good job!

Here’s the art I’d like comments on! Constructive criticism would be nice, just nothing too harsh!

I really like this piece! Your lines are super, super clean and I admire that. The style is really appealing, with the rounded, chunky shapes, and your stylization on things like their shoelaces are very well-done. It's easy for a chibi/cartoony style to get cluttered, but everything reads well here, including the colors, and they have a sense of volume even without shading, which is hard to do.

My only constructive criticism would be that their face area is "busy" or bunched together compared to the rest of them and at first it took me a moment to tell what I was looking at (their eyepatch, other eye, their nose, their face mask). Overall, really nice drawing! c:

This isn't a deep piece of art or anything, but I finished it today and I think it's cute, lol

Edit: Uh... it's been a while, so if you want to comment on a different piece of art, that's ok too? http://hedgemaze.tumblr.com/

Edit2: Oops I'm late, but thank you so much for the sweet comment! Yes, they're a couple. c:

Okay~

i giggled, liek its so funny. I don't know the relationship of these characters but it's so funny. I have to wonder if they're dating or something of the like? Can i jsut say i love how you always inject some really good facial expressions in your work, their expressions alone tell the story well and without the text i can sort of infer what's going on. Not saying the text is usuless, just that it stands pretty good on it's own, the text is a nice treat. I only hope he didn't mess up his combo

uhmmm idk what to pick?

this?? Issa's new art

colorful

Okay first of all, she looks so badass and sassy here????? This matches what you have for her: Strong and hard to change, Issa knows she’s the best; you don’t need to remind her. You seem to have poured a lot of passion on this cutie, and you totally nailed her in this drawing! Not to mention her pose and expression really tells hat's coming to those who try her! It's nice to see to make your characters come to life like this. <3

Outside ho much this gives character, look at all the glow! This beautiful yeti, charging up to liven up her own expectations by powering herself up! That's at least how I view it haha

I did this in an hour I was merely mashing every setting in Sai then poof-- I used it as an icon for Damien's half-mutated version so yea.........

lets

woah!!!! this is awesome!!! first of all — I love the shadow over his red eye, making it stand out, and his nonchalant look gives off the ‘don’t talk to me or I’ll murder you’ vibe haha. The dark purples and reds of the background make his light blond hair pop out, drawing your attention to his face which is good for this type of piece (also, red was a very good decision for the background!! it makes his eye stand out that much more, and it reminds of blood — very creepy). I absolutely ADORE the brush you used for the lineart in this as well!!! it fits so well omg,,,,, and your stYL E,,,,,, HOW

All in all a very simple yet great drawing which has a very good atmosphere :O

This is my fantroll, Titkos Abisme!! He’s blind and pretty edgy tbh (criticism is okay :D)

Claiming @kirkwoodgaps!

What a sleek image! The general pose and composition are already pretty interesting in and off themselves, but that lighting and the cooperation between the background and the light and shadow tones makes this piece jump out to me! Just, the way those shadows coming from the light behind him interact with the shape of his robes and body underneath, as well as the unique choice to pick the light source as coming from behind the character, and the subtle blur that makes this piece even more serene, it all works together so well I was instantly drawn to the picture and felt I had to leave a praising comment on it.

Not to mention your choice of colours. In combination with what I mentioned above, the nightly blues and the starry, maybe even artificial lighter blues used in the lighting make this seem almost ethereal. I'm legit amazed over how well the lighting works in this piece! Did I mention yet that I like the lighting and effects? Combined with that mysterious pose and those deep, black eyes that are somehow looking at the viewer, that's one spectacle!

One point of criticism I have would be the linework. I've mentioned how soft I find this picture to be, and feel like the pixelated linework detracts from that feeling pretty hard, distracts even. For a picture with soft shading and colours like this, I'd recommend using a very soft line brush and colouring the lines to be slightly darker than the darkest colour they touch. Like this, the lines would blend in better and create an even softer, even more pleasant piece!

Either way, that's all I have in terms of thoughts on this piece. Keep creating masterpieces like this!

Ah Raddishes...I'm already a fan of your artwork because you've drawn for me a couple times in the forum art games. I actually get excited when I see that you're drawing for me!

I'm a fan of your linework and color usage. Everything is very simple but it works very well. And for this particuliar picture, I love how you did the background texture which I believe to be smoke? Anyway, I'm not super good  at leaving long comments or thinking of things to say but that's what I picked up on most!

Just my latest traditional watercolor character drawing. (Please don't be super critical! I'm a sensitive bebby ^.^)

oh my dear! you are such a great artist! seriously, watercolors are absolute hell to me so i really admire the people who can create such outstanding drawing using them!

I absolutely love the pose and the face! She looks really alive(? or how to say that xd) Also i'm absolutely in love with all those small details! I can't imagine how patient one have to be to draw all of them xd So you've done outstanding job there, dear! Those details are absolutely stunning and i can't stop looking at them because they are so great(and small omg ;~;)

The shading is done greatly too! I especially lov how you colored her skin! it's so pretty~! And her transparent sleeves, actually look like transparent sleeves?! How did you even do that dear? xd that's so fricking cool and i think it's my favorite part in this drawing! Seriously, i can stare at them forever! THe shadows and everything is so perfect, i have no words!

And her hair! Ah it looks so gorgeous! The lineart and the coloring overall are so neat and beautiful! i just love this drawing so much ≧◡≦

kinda old drawing, still it's my latest drawing with an actual background xD

hedgemaze

Rorichi I've seen this one before and I really like it-- it feels very "real". The details of the stairwell, between the graffiti and the peeling paint, and the details of the character, like her glowing cigarette and phone screen, add so much. I can definitely picture this scene happening in real life. I also like your usage of colors: the stairwell is dim and muted, but the pops of color of the character's hair, socks, and items draw the viewer's eye.

In general I think the picture looks great! Her pose is expressive and natural, and I like the thin, light-colored highlighting lines you use in your style.

This is a few months old, but it's the last big painting I've done. The character is my Stardew Valley farmer, Rickie, meeting the Junimos in the Community Center (you don't have to know anything about the game, though).

Yoo i love the composition of this! There's a nice flow from the two bottom corners with the Junimos to lead the to the leaf hut in the center with Rickie. The scattered objects also give good indirect-characterization to the Junimos for them being a bit childish but curious!

The lighting also helps make the boarded up community center not seem foreboding and spooky. Instead it's run down, yeah, but it seems soft in a way (Though maybe thats helped by the cute fruit people running around lmao)

Your picture did a good job making me curious about what'll happen next! Maybe i should pick up the game lmao
