My Experience with Fishstick/Bride (NOT A PSA)

Posted 3 years, 1 month ago (Edited 3 years, 29 days ago) by yinfu

Please understand this before I start. I am in no way trying to 'cancel' Bride nor add to the drama. I am speaking my part now despite this happening months ago because I have finally gained the courage to and have reassurance that I am not 100% in the wrong here. All screenshots are unedited, and everything I will show has not been watered down or exaggerated. I am not asking for pity or reassurance anymore. I just want people to know about this.

Please do not question me on why I wrote this bulletin. I am simply speaking on my experience with Fishstick's service and that is it. I also hope for those who have blocked me because of this situation to hear my story and my side. I have been refunded and given all the characters back, so the issue is solved, however this isn't a callout post, warning post, or anything. It is just a service review. I can post this and it is allowed.

And to everyone telling me to namedrop everyone who has blacklisted/blocked me, I cannot. This entire situation happened in August. I have been blocked permanently (IP Blocked) so for a few people, I can't even see their usernames or comments, even when I go into Guest-Mode and I do not want to make other accounts to make it seem like I'm ban evading.

I have made a google document on the topic as it's a lot to put in toyhouse.

Everything is in the document. If you can't read it, let me know please. If you have questions, let me know.
I will reply to every single person on the thread if they have questions. They may be slow because I am juggling homework right and am very tired, so please be patient ^^

Coming here as an artist who has been doing commissions for 7+ years but also as someone who has commissioned a lot people.

It is 100% on the artist to make sure that the commissioner's needs and desires are met. Whether that is offered as free changes or paid, as long as they are compensated, they are responsible for being receptive to changes. If text descriptions are not cutting it and the person is unsatisfied with the design being made off them, the artist should not only be willing to have other references given to them but be asking for them themselves.

If you end up hurt or offended that someone went to ask a friend for help making physical reference for what they really want, you don't have any business doing customs. Especially if you are being unresponsive in the first place. I understand that custom adopts are a hobby for a lot of artists, but understand that if you brought that attitude into a studio and were offended if other artists were brought in to help solidify the design of a character, you would not be hired back.

I would understand if the person used part of the design, got a refund, and got another artist to finish it, but that is VERY clearly not what happened here and Fishsticks way overreacted.

If someone commissioned me for an adopt and had an another friend help put to paper the direction they wanted to go for an adopt, I would be over the moon. Don't offer custom adopts from text descriptions if you aren't able to handle the fact that you might not nail first time what the client wants. If you can't handle it, make them give picture reference of ideas to go off of.

And if I commissioned someone and they did this same thing to me, I would feel exactly how the poster here feels.

A lot of the comments here are thinking only from the perspective of being the commissioned artist. Not even in a professional way, either.
