Open Aquatic Canine Species; Dakonis!

Posted 4 years, 29 days ago by WolfenCaticus

Hey everyone! I've been sort of bouncing around the idea of sharing my species here, and finally decided I might as well. They were made back around January of 2018, and since that time went from being a closed species, slowly turning into a semi-open species, and finally on September 13th, 2019, becoming fully open for anyone to make one! I was weary at first about opening them, mostly just because I was concerned people would start breaking species rules and doing whatever they wanted with them, but then I realized.. So? Creativity is something I always wanted to inspire, and if people want to go wild with that, it really shouldn't be a big deal haha.

Anywhos! So the Dakonis are an aquatic based species, being roughly the size of a mid to large sized dog, that live in saltwater oceans. They are able to breathe both below and above the surface (Sporting both gills and lungs!) but tend not to spend a lot of time on land. When they do, it's usually to lounge about in the sun.

There's a few traits that's expected of all members of the species (Though mutations are possible, just as in real life. If feral, mutations will likely have a negative effect on their quality of life.)
-Large, canine-like noses.
-Cheek, back, and tail fins.
-Medium sized bat-like ears.
-One large fang on each side of the bottom jaw that juts above the upper lip. (Sort of like small tusks)
-Small needle-like teeth.
-Gills
-Webbed three fingered "hands" in front with very long claws.
-Paws in back with shorter, yet still lengthy claws.

Also, most dakonis do actually have fur! It's just generally very short and wiry, but, much less commonly, a dakonis can have a thicker, fluffier fur. The reason this is so rare, however, is due to the fact that a thick coat of fur would weigh them down in the water.

Wild/Feral dakonis usually live in packs of 4-6 members, hunting the ocean for small fish and other prey. Their hunting methods can vary between packs, but more often then not they surround their prey and scare them into the jaws of their fellow dakonis. When not hunting, they tend to go onto land to lounge about. There's almost always one dakonis on guard by the off chance something attempts to attack the resting creatures.

Those are the basics! Their full wiki is on Furry Amino under my profile, and I'm here to answer any other questions you may have! Also, if you'd like to see an example of a dakonis character, my boyo Vlaryn is up on my profile ^^
