01. WHAT ARE DATAKITS?

Datakits are a species of man-made ferret that can take physical and digital form. They are often found spending their time in the digital world, be it in computers or on the world wide web!

They come in two categories: Viral Datakits and Antiviral Datakits.

Viral datakits manifest inside computers/the internet as viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. They are frequently very mischievous, antagonistic, and chaotic, though they can have any type of personality. They are often employed by hackers and people with similar occupations. The severity of what they can do is dependent on the individual, some able to completely destroy a computer/website and some only able to do small things like pop up ads or stealing data.

Antiviral datakits are the opposite of the viral variety, instead defending computers/websites from attacks. They are frequently very righteous and noble, though they can have any type of personality. They are often kept as pets alongside being employed by individuals, businesses, corporations, and even government facilities to defend their computers and data.

Viral and Antiviral Datakits can have any set of traits and still be a part of their respective category, as their status as Viral or Antiviral is strictly lore-based rather than trait-based!

Other lore-based traits that every datakit inherently has are:

  • Datakits can leave behind pixel pawprints where they walk when in digital form.
  • Datakits can defend themselves with a breath weapon in the form of pixel breath.
  • Nearly all datakits have LED screen masks which display their eyes, that can have multiple expressions. There is currently only one trait that allows for a datakit to not have this LED screen mask.

03. HOW DO I MAKE A DATAKIT?

First, you'll need to join the official datakit discord server, the Datakit Cache

Every first time owner is able to make their first datakit free of charge! They get one free make-your-own slot with unlimited common traits and up to 3 free uncommon traits.

Extra traits and MYO slots can be bought, either with USD or an earned in-group currency called "bytes." You can earn bytes through community participation, either by drawing datakits (your own or others) or participating in community events.

Other means of acquiring a datakit are: Adopts, Staff Customs, and Raffles!

With all that out of the way, we hope you enjoy Datakits! Don't forget to join the discord, and if you'd like, we also have a Toyhouse World, Instagram page, and DeviantArt. We hope you stick with us, as we have plenty of other exciting events planned for the future. It's recommended you check out the TH World at least if you'd like to get a rundown of the rules of the species/discord server before joining! They're linked at the top of the World's home page.

To be completely clear: We do not own the concept of ferrets/mustelids with webcore/internetcore influence nor their traits. No closed species idea is 100% original, and we cannot police what traits or combination of traits people put on their designs. We only ask that you do not use the datakit species name if you are not a part of the species. We're just here to have fun and build a community! This is a passion project being worked on with love by a group of friends.

One more thing to mention: If the species gets big enough, we plan to move to Lorekeeper and make our own website! While the species is small it will be run mainly through Discord. As such, you do need a discord to join the species if you want to claim freebie myos, items, currency, etc.!
