Fae born from human emotions in the Faerie Realm, traveling to the 'other realms' where humans live, including Earth.

Mimsies have multiple forms, their true form is humanoid (when in the Faerie Realm) otherwise they are confined to one of two forms: an animal-like form that is 'ferret' shaped or an in-between kemonomimi form. Their second most common form is their kemonomimi in-between stage, it is a harder form to maintain that requires more magic usage than their animal form, but much more desired form among the species.

What is a Mimsy?

A sprite born from a collection of human emotions. Mimsies are fae that come from the faerie realm.

When born they are similar to pixies in that they have a hard time expressing more than one or two emotion at a time and can become easily confused around multiple humans or very emotional individuals. Mimsies who have spent more time around humans do not struggle as much with this as some of the newer born fae of this type. Mimsies have an intelligence level that matches humans and only seem stunted with their lack of cultural knowledge.

Phylacteries and Magic

When in the Faerie Realm Mimsies can use magic freely and have a full humanoid appearance, devoid of animal characteristics or phylactery skin markings. If they are of a rarer type they may also bear wings - feathered, bug like, or plant like. When in one of the many human realms where fae magic is weaker, however, their magic is limited and must be stored in a phylactery - altering their physical form. A phylactery is an ordinary item that is chosen by the Mimsy to store their magic. These items usually hold emotions or memories from humans and it is the residual feelings left behind that draws a Mimsy to it. The emotions left within a phylactery usually reflects the emotion the Mimsy is born from.

A Mimsy's phylactery must be kept near their person at all times for them to use their magic and retain a humanoid form. If they venture too far from their phylactery they revert to a more animal-like form and cannot use magic at all. This form is more similar to that of a ferret or stoat.

The magic this type of fae uses most is channeling magic when on Earth. This is magic that is 'borrowed' and not used freely, it must be tapped into by the sprite being close to magically infused beings, places, or items. Magic ranges based on the fae and is not restricted to a certain type, however some items may give the Mimsy more specialized abilities. For example, a Mimsy who has chosen a watch as their phylactery might acquire special time based abilities. (Magic usage/abilities is up to the owner of the Mim to suit their story lines and plots.)

Appearance and Glamour

When in the human realm, a Mimsy's appearance is a reflection of their phylactery in design, since that is where they are getting their magic from to produce a humanoid form. Their skin and fur will adopt markings and patterns that resemble their phylactery. These markings are similar to the touch to that of tattoos; they are smooth and do not hold any dimension of their own merit. Markings might not always reflect the phylactery 100% however their design will usually be reminiscent of the object in some way. While in a human realm, most Mimsies will also bear ears and a tail, that match their animal form.

Even if a Mimsy has their phylactery close, they often have a hard time hiding their ears, tails, and markings without Glamour magic. With Glamour, a Mimsy can appear 100% completely human, and easily blend in. Glamour magic is a particular magic that is used most often by fae. It is illusion and manifestation based magic that tricks a human into seeing a fae or magical entity as human or very close to it. A Mimsy who is determined to fit in and dons Glamour will be forcibly reverted back to their ferret-like form after 6 hours, from sheer exhaustion. In order to switch to a humanoid/kemonomimi form again, they will need to recharge their magic and rest (which can be read about below).

Recharging Magic

A Mimsy's usable magic is limited and can run out when present in a realm other than the Faerie Realm. This is the magic they use most often to maintain appearances and interact with their surroundings. A Mimsy's magic is displayed in two ways - stored inside of a phylactery OR as a halo or horns (extremely rare).

If a Mimsy uses too much of their magic and they become so weak they are unable to keep a stable humanoid form (kemonomimi or otherwise) they have two options: they must go back to the Faerie Realm to recharge and rejuvenate their stored magic OR they must find a strong willed human to feed off of to restore their phylactery.

Mimsies can absorb energy and emotions from humans and craft it into magic of their own accord. They are drawn to humans who are experiencing a very strong emotion that reflects the same feelings they are born from. For example, a Mimsy might be born from 'loneliness', by finding a human who is overcome with a great sense of loneliness the Mimsy can sap those negative feelings from the human and recharge their phylactery.

When a Mimsy feeds off of a human's emotions the human stops feeling that emotion for the time being. In this way, Mimsies who feed on negative emotions can be seen as a good thing.

Personality

Mimsies have very vibrant personalities. Often times their personalities easily reflect the human emotions they are born from, leaning towards a negatively or positively dominant personality. As mentioned before, younger Mimsies will also sometimes have a hard time expressing themselves with more than one or two emotions at a time like a lesser pixie or sprite.

Character traits that are ALWAYS present in this particular fae species include, high levels of curiosity, playfulness, and mischievousness. A Mimsy's curious nature is more often than not a sure fire way that they find themselves stirring up trouble.

Many Mimsies also have hording tendencies. Mimsies are often attracted to objects of similar style to the one their phylactery is made from. Because of this many become collectors or hoarders over time. This is a compulsion that can be fought or denied, however, they still find themselves enamored with particular objects and they may be subject to frequent impulse buys or even stealing.

Species Facts

  • When in animal form and without a phylactery, a Mimsy's magic takes the shape of a halo of light over their head
  • The designs on a Mimsy's body is actually a coloration to smooth skin and not fur, the only fur a Mimsy has when in their in-between form is on their ears and tails, their animal form is completely covered in short hair with a very fluffy and soft tail
  • A Mimsy's phylactery cannot be something perishable, if the object chosen has the ability to 'go bad' or 'rot' there is a good chance the Mimsy's magic might become damaged or unstable and in turn so would their very being
  • Mimsies live alone and do not gather in packs or groups unless in the faerie realm - If a Mimsy does find attraction with others of their species they very rarely gather in more than a group of four

  • Mimsies who choose an object that is haunted or posessed by one or more spirits as their phylactery will have an uncanny connection to the dead. These Mimsies will have a Third Eye with which allows them to see and communicate with spirits and ghosts. Some Mimsies can easily identify these entities when they are cursed, while others cannot.
  • Mimsies are curious and playful with a pretty mischievous side. Their curiosity and tendency to explore the things around them usually will get them into trouble in more ways than one
  • Mimsies are swayed and effected by the same things as a normal fae: iron burns their skin and poisons them, unnatural man-made metals make them uncomfortable and they do not like to touch them, they have a penchant for children, they can be summoned and controlled by someone who knows their TRUE name, they can more easily communicate with the spirits and nature than a human, ect.

Here is a basic trait list to cover a Mimsy's appearance. More traits may be added at a later date.

EARS

  • Standard Ears - Standard Mimsy ears are 'short and round'. They usually resemble that of a ferret or cat. These are the most common Mimsy ear type found among the species. They do not crop.
  • Type 1 - The second ear type is 'tall' and this is categorized as uncommon. These ears are larger and resemble the ears of rabbits or inari foxes. The style may vary and resemble something more fantasy.
  • Type 2 - This ear type is labeled as 'unnatural'. These ears do not resemble an existing animal and are more often found on Mimsies who travel to fantasy-based less modern realms.
  • Type 3 - The 'wing ear type is rare. They can be feathered or furred and will often time carry a color pattern similar to their phylactery or natural fur palette.
  • Type 4 - This style of 'wing' ear resembles butterfly or other bug type wings. It is considered a sign of high nobility and is found most commonly among those related to the royal family.

TAILS

  • Tails come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The standard tail is a medium haired fluffy tail that extends to the calf. It is easily reminiscent of a ferret or stoat tail. This tail can curl slightly or hang lower. All other tail types would be considered more uncommon.

Mimsy tails are always covered in fur and are not ever scaled, reptilian, aquatic, or leathery.

SKIN MARKINGS

Skin markings are based off of a Mimsy's phylactery. The location of the markings vary per Mimsy.

  • Pattern Coverage - Standard markings usually cover the arms and legs of a Mimsy and can vary in complexity or length. This is the most common design and it doesn't often deviate on common Mimsies. The patterns of the upper body can cover the hands forearms and reach as far as the shoulders. Some patterns have been known to also branch across the collar bone or neck. On the legs skin markings can cover the feet and extend up to the thigh or fall shorter around the knee.
  • Excess Coverage - Most skin markings do not cover more than 60% of the body and leave the waist and high upper thigh exposed. If the designs branch out and do cover this much skin it is considered an uncommon or rare trait.
  • Uncommon Placements - Uncommon placements for patterns and designs are considered a special trait. Banded eyes or eyes that have markings surrounding them are considered extremely uncommon. Another uncommon design trait would be patterns that cover the hands or feet only - resembling socks or short gloves.
  • Rare Marking Placement - Skin markings very rarely cover the stomach or torso. A Mimsy that has a design in such a place usually doesn't have designs elsewhere on their body. On occassion there may be a stray design that branches out onto this part of the body, but its commonality is often questioned.
  • Discordant Designs - Skin markings that are not consistent or are on the body in a discordant fashion are considered VERY rare. This means the pattern breaks or doesn't quite cover a part of the body as it normally would. Discordant patterns fascinate many Mimsies and they will often be drawn to these individuals.

A friendly reminder to everyone who signed on for a slot and showed interest in getting a MYO Mimsy --- Designs must be turned in by December 31st to validate the slot claim! I look forward to seeing everyone's new Mimsy~

hikarushirou

These are right up my alley, ALSO FERRETS! I'd like a slot please!

Also, question, it says their kemonomimi form is hard to maintain, but that's the majority of the images? What is kemonomimi form according to you/this species?

EnchantedFrog

I can add you to the list~ hikarushirou

What I mean by saying their kemonomimi form is hard to maintain, I meant to put a little emphasis that they NEED a phylactery to keep up that form. And if they use a lot of magic otherwise, they would need to actively work harder to maintain the form -- it doesnt just come super naturally for many Mims.

Siegfried

I love these guys so much aaaa !! I'd love a slot + I've joined the group on dA as /siegfriedd c:

hikarushirou

Yeah I'm a derp and actually read it all later. I just was all into just from looks and reading "faerie realm". * v* Their phylactery (never even heard that word xD) makes me think of a Fae's Karin. In a sense. Yay for a slot, now to decide on a theme~

Bostonia

I'd love a slot! I'd join into the DA group as bay-state :^ )

EnchantedFrog

Bostonia We are coming towards the end of the submission window, but I can definitely add you to the list~

EnchantedFrog

Also sorry for the delay Siegfried I did get your message in both places (since I didn't respond right away, feel free to take an extra week to turn in your Mimsy if you need it! I've got you on the list!)

Siegfried

Thank you so much!! I'll try to finish as quick as I can, I bet I won't need a week <3
