Unpopular Species Opinions Thread

Idk I just had the sudden urge to make a thread like this so here you go

I'm just annoyed that the most prominent criticism with closed species is always still super expensive prices, while it is true with more popular species the topic has basically been beaten to death. Discussions of this don't really help when a lot of newer species don't have prices as high as whatever the old popular ones do, which means we probably should start sharing opinions that are at least a little different (and yes, high species adopt prices still exist, but anything over the thousands is pretty taboo for the newer ones...). I just want to see... other opinions on closed species, or original species in general.

Anyways, just respect other people's opinions in this thread and share whatever. And no cringe toxicity 👍 just remember this isn't an anonymous Tumblr blog so you still gotta be NICE and POLITE

Decided to add this, here's topics to probably avoid because they're either too prominent or unrelated. If you wanna discuss them, do that somewhere else. It's not really a hard ban but try to stick to the point of the thread!

- Adoptable/MYO prices (Discussing marketing methods or sales of other things is fine)

- Offbrands

- Species Owner/Mod controversy unrelated to species itself

I'm not sure about outright naming species to criticise publically. If you do that, I won't be responsible for anything that happens (・o・;)

Otherwise will be lenient as long as discussion isn't harmful

My unpopular opinion? Chimereon designs are actually pretty neat! Is the species itself original? No. Are the adopts unreasonably expensive? Of course. But in cases where Chimereon designs that go further than just "this and that colors", they can actually get pretty creative and would be fun to own, compared to most species I see nowadays where they're just naked anthros with different coat colors and patterns, nothing else too interesting. Wouldn't buy them if prices are high, but kudos to the designers.

sometimes i stare at these massive prices for an myo and i think

is the right to make an oc worth the price of a triple a game?

i love cses, but again, in popular raffles, someone likely has a higher chance of a car accident, than winning an myo raffle

having a way to get these myos for free makes people more interested in the species, full stop ngl

Mathematics actually a friend had a literal roleplay group not intended to be a species but marketed it as a closed species for the clout LOL

I think there's still people out there who like species for the designs, probably why species like terraliens r still going strong lmfao.

I personally like species with lore or being a "roleplay fandom" because I wouldn't know how to use my species charas otherwise!! Rather than having a pretty character just sit there doing nothing, I could actually put it in a world with its kind and have fun with my characters if the species' gameplay/lore aspects are good. I guess I just rather do some collaborative world-building instead of making up my own world for my characters aha. I don't even care if it's technically not a closed species at that point, arpgs and lore heavy species are just pretty fun if you're into those

I agree species did have changed!! although I remember species arpgs are a pretty old thing too, I don't remember any of the older ones having significantly indepth lore. but it's certainly a welcome change, I agree

My personal gripe with CS actually extends CS and is more of a general art/furry art community thing that I personally cannot stand and am very black-and-white on and that is auctions. Can't stand them as a concept. Personally I have never seen an adoptable of any kind be worth the Autobuy amount. I firmly believe it's scammy behaviour and that you should just put a flat price on your art and what you think it's worth. Within closed species the designs at least have unique traits or traits that are adoptable/guest artist exclusive (in most cases anyway) and that can sort of justify the bidding prices to me but regular furry artists will literally sell designs with 3 solid colour blocks for 200$ and it infuriates me...but I digress. Auctions are scams.

when your personal or traded art can’t count towards a character’s price, you made the effort for it, why should you gift it?

My unpopular opinion as a non CS participant who observes the community is that 'rip-offs' are fine. I saw a lot of drama about this on dA esp for species that were like fanfox, sushidog, etc. So any design that combined the same concepts was attacked for 'ripping off'. People need to chill tf out.

Inspiration is so important in artist communities, and people will always take an idea they see and male it their own. You can claim ownership of lore and designs but 'traits' are so watered down at this point its unreasonable to attack artists for having similar ideas in their species.
