I've never made a species before, but I've been thinking about this one kind of character, but their design felt like it could be more a species than just one lone person.

I don't know if this has been done before, so if it has idk, I'll delete this.

My idea is a species called Aquamarias - they're mer-creatures who live in their own world. This world, however, connects to others (from your character's world to modern world, etc) via fountains. Their scales are actually the coins people toss into those fountains, and it's said that getting a coin from these creatures provides you with a wish.
Trinkets are allowed on Aquamarias, with trash being common (but you can still have one without), simple trinkets being uncommon, and rare jewelry like rings being, well, rare.

I'm collaborating with Motherbeast on this, and we're still ironing out traits and such. I just wanted to see if someone would be interested in getting one if we ever released them?

Updated 1/2/18:

We have a trait sheet scrambled up with a little lore on the Aquamarias! We'll hopefully have some designs out soon to serve as examples!

Updated 2/5/18:

Not only did we slightly update the traits list, but the first batch of Aquamarias are ready! Three artists worked on these, one for each tier. We'll showcase one from each person for a day or two, then unleash each batch for sale! The Aquas shown as examples will also be for sale (except for Common Tier).

Updated 2/20/18:

We haven't started selling the Aquas due to talk of their designs needing to be more unified. However, we'd like more opinions! So we've opened up a discord to any that are interested in giving advice or simply talking about ideas! Discord is still open for those that want to join!

Updated 5/2/18:

We have discussed unifying traits and have decided (thanks to Motherbeast) on a defining trait called the North Star! These special designs are commonly shown on an Aquas' chest, able to show people the insides of the Aquas, which are filled with contents relating to the wish that's created them! We are also updating the lore and trait sheet! Once those are set up, we can start of the Mer-May month with some Aquas for sale! Prices may alter depending on artists' decisions.

I don't really get how this is a CS. They're mermaids, theres nothing really special about it. Thier design shows no sign of the lore, which specifically says the scales are made of coins; manta rays and octopai don't even have scales. The designs are cute but too disconnected from one another to be a CS ( as in if the manta and the octo mermaids were next to each other you could not convince me they're the same species).

No amount of smiley faces and 'we're open to criqties' can convince me you took that well.

Look the coin thing is the only thing that made them unique. If it's to difficult for the people who truly want this then how do you think that looks to an outsider like me about the ' hard work' and 'dedication' there is to this species? " But they're volunteers" well ya know if you want something done right you do it yourself; or spend some of your own money and commission someone to do it. It's all part of business, you gotta be willing to spend some money out of your own pocket for something that you want.

Most popular species are very basic, easy to draw, easy to crank out adopts for, easy to commission. All that fun stuff that people like to do with closed species.

Don't gimme that " owo but but other people-" I don't care what other people do with thier closed species we talking bout yours. You can't make the argument that " owo oh well they can have scales" if they clearly don't have scales in the examples shown.

Limbs, sizes, trinkets, and whatever else you put on a mermaid will not change the fact that it's just a mermaid. Honestly having too many atributes is one of the problems I pointed out because I can't even tell if any of the charaters shown are from the same species.

Most popular species are very identifyable.

I'm not personally attacking you, your friends that you made the species with, or the species itself. If you feel that way, please stop. Because it'll probably make you ignore everything I said.

I'm just saying it's not the most marketable thing. But it could be. Just take away the coins as a major design element, make it something smaller like eyes, have it imbeded in the skin, have only some coins in the scales that makes patterns, make it this jewelery, just make it easier on yourselves.

It'd also be good to look into making a more uniform design. The scales aren't even the problem I really have with it. It's just that nothing is uniform. I should be able to look at a base and reconize what it is, just like a blank paper doll human.

The whole wish creature has been done before too. Saw a new one on the forums the other day, looked like another stardragon/dreamie/ whatever thoes bunny looking humans are but hey, at least it was identifyable and drawable.

Cute idea and all but I wouldn't make people pay for it. Adopts and customs, of course! go right ahead and charge people it's your art! But myo, no. Open species, yes. Closed, no.

It's late, for any clarifications just ask; pm/dm me if need be, I'm outta here, buh bye.

contrary to the uh ... not so popular belief, i really really think that these are so cool ! i've seen my fair share of closed species, and while mermaids are a common motif/base, there is nothing about the designs that seems really cliche or unoriginal. i wouldn't mind paying for a myo or whatever since the designs are based highly off of lore. if i want more defined coin scales, that's the point of a myo right? keep up the good work~ i look forwards to these being released and whatnot !!! <3
