Valos Clans

The Valos are split into five clans which contain numerous tribes: The New England clan, the Atlantic clan, the Northern clan, the Plains clan, and the Mexico clan.

All the tribes currently maintain friendly relations and trade and selecting partners from other tribes is encouraged.

Information on the clans and tribes will go here as I think of it.

Clan Overview

The Northern Clan
From taiga to tundra, the northern clan lead simple, nomadic lives. The two known tribes are the Reindeer tribe, who travel with their herds and rely heavily on their deer for food, clothing, transport, and other things, as well as companionship, and the Newfoundland tribe, whose primary source of food and needs come from the ocean. They make use of the trees of the taiga for building, kayaks, and soften the bark to make clothing.

The New England Clan
Huddled between the Great Lakes and the ocean, the New England Clan are mainly agricultural. Living in a more complex society, they have extablished classes but do not determine work by their sex phases. They're clothing is more elaborate and varied. The known tribes are the Manhattan tribe, who have rebuilt part of the city and hold the seat of the Hawkfather Gatherings, and the Connecticut tribe, who are best known for their wine. They travel by foot or horse. The New England Clan are unique in that they have a notable rate of literacy among their people.

The Atlantic Clan
Made up of nomadic tribes whose range cover from the Gulf of Mexico upward into the Appalachians to New England Clan territory, they are the most versitile clan. The Coastal tribe moves north and south to various camps and creates large boats for deep sea fishing and even whaling. The Peninsula clan also fishes, but makes use of the remaining everglades for hunting. They are known for keeping alligators as pets. The Appalachian tribe are mountaineers and trappers who generally keep to themselves.

The Plains Clan
From northern Mexico to the Great Lakes, the Plains Clan are a nomadic peoples, either rotating through established camps in the northern woods, like the Lake tribe, or following the rivers and buffalo across the open landscape like the Texas tribe. The Lake tribe rely on fishing and hunting to survive, while the Texas tribe, who's territory covers the greatest amount of land (and the greatest danger, they are the farthest western Clan and the most likely to suffer karkan torment) and rely on the herds. The Texas tribe ride horses, though a chosen few ride selectively bred buffalo.

The Mexico Clan
Surrounding the Gulf from Texas to Yucatan, the Mexico Clan's territory, both land and water, overlaps with the Plains and Atlantic Clans. They are a combination of nomadic wanderers and agriculturalists and hold the only other city of Amrika, Tataheca. They often travel across the Gulf to meet with the Atlantic Clan for trade on Cuba. The current Hawkfather, Auri, intends to expand the Mexico Clan's territory southward into South America, and if it proves safe from karkan, relocate his people to safety there.

The New England Clan

The Manhattan Tribe
The Manhattan are the largest of the Valos tribes and mostly sedentary, living among the ruins of New York. They’ve built up some areas and pulled the rest down to reuse materials and make use of the land. Unlike the other tribes, there is no difference in gender roles; one’s sex phase is merely a biological norm and has nothing to do with their role in society. There is also established classes. Their form of dress is more elaborate than that of the other tribes.
