Notes: The flower drawn here is the pink dianthus or carnation. Dianthus is derived from the word 'dios' meaning divine, and anthos, meaning 'flower.' Carnations in the past have been rumored to have medical uses in making 'cordials' and sweets. During the Victorian era in which Nightshade lived, the carnation/dianthus was a well-loved flower for floriographers, who made an entire system of messages based on their colors. Pink carnations can mean gratitude, fascination and admiration, as well as a general sense of happiness. They also flower in spring.
