The forest was peaceful. It was a good place to relax, in your opinion. Plus, your leafeon really wanted to stretch it’s legs and run about, so what better place to let it do that than somewhere overgrown with vegetation, even if you couldn’t stand the little cretin? If it meant that you could probably get brownie points in it’s books, you’d take the chance. You were sick of the little shit not listening to you when you called on it. Honestly, you’d begun wondering how Jae dealt with it, because you certainly couldn’t.

You exhaled, and kept a close eye on it as you lay back against a large, moss covered rock. It was surprisingly comfortable, and you felt content. Listening to the birds and frogs was surprisingly calming, along with the gentle sounds of a nearby river. You could easily have fallen asleep due to the atmosphere, but you didn’t really want anything to happen to leafeon while you weren’t watching. You thought that perhaps you could rely on houndoom to watch it, but the dog was already fast asleep beside you. You could tell it was dreaming by the way it’s legs twitched every now and again, and you couldn’t help but let out a light chuckle. You wondered what it dreams about.

Your thoughts were promptly cut short when you heard leafeon yelp. You didn’t jump to your feet, but you did sit up a little in concern to get a better look of what was going on. Your leafeon had it’s typical pissed off look on it’s face that you were convinced was a permanent feature, but it was angrier than usual. It was sitting on it’s haunches with one of it’s paws held up off of the ground. It looked like it had been hurt by something. Stepped on a thorn perhaps? Probably. You decided to get up and go tell it to suck it up and stop being a huge baby.

Leafeon hadn’t moved or even noticed your approach. It seemed fixated on something sitting in the grass. You kneeled down beside it and scrunched up your nose to try and see what it was exactly that it was looking at. All there was seemed to be a pink flower an– oh? it moved?.That… definitely took you by surprise.

Now both of you were staring at this… thing. You can’t say you knew what it was, you’d never seen it before. Something was telling you that it was best to leave it un-caught, however. You - at some point that you don’t recall - reached behind you to your belt and your hand had firmly taken hold of a spare pokéball, but you didn’t know if you could bring yourself to use it. Though… something about this strange pokémon made you want it all the same, so you held firm.

The pokémon moved, and looked up at the two of you with it’s large, innocent eyes and you couldn’t help but let your posture soften. Your leafeon, however, still looked very unamused and it didn’t take you long to connect the dots and realise that the odd pokémon had bitten it. Oh well, it probably deserved it. You went into autopilot and slowly and cautiously held out your hand to it, when it suddenly curled in on itself out of fright. Poor thing was awfully timid, it seemed.

You sat there, for awhile without saying a word. Your leafeon eventually grew tired and went back to frolicking (not before spitting at it) and you turned your attention back to your houndoom only to find it awake and sitting upright, watching you from the sidelines. It was almost as if it was waiting for you to do something, as it could probably tell that there was a pokémon there from it’s sense of smell.

As if your houndoom convinced you somehow, you ended up unclipping the pokéball from your belt and you gently tapped it on the head of the mysterious pokémon before watching it open, then close. To your surprise, you caught it on your first try. How… odd. That’s never happened to you before. Truthfully, no pokémon had ever wanted to join your party before. You received houndoom as a houndour back when you worked for team magma, and Jaehyuk was the one who caught and evolved eevee, but you’d never actually managed to catch anything for yourself - but now you had, and you didn’t know what to do. What you did know was that you suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to protect this pokémon, no matter what.

You let out a sigh. No battling with it then, it seemed.
