Castle in the Sky

My fellow knight,

I’m writing about you

Like I’ve seen you for the first time.

My love,

How you wanted to escape

That lonely castle in the sky.

Miles above the town,

Miles above my home,

I told you I would rescue you,

From that castle you call your prison.

When I first saw you outside,

Skills so poor,

Movements so sloppy-

I knew you were different-

Not like the other knights in the cycle.

I felt like I saw you before,

In that window- looking so sorrowful

And lonely.

I went up to you, because I knew

You were that princess I swore to protect.

I told you I’d keep your secret,

And that I’d train you how to fight-

How pleased, were you

When I taught you how to wield

The same sword you still own,

From that day many years ago.

My love,

My life-

It’s been many years,

Since I came upon you that day,

Since I taught you how to fight.

I saw that sparkle in your eyes,

How free you felt

How free you looked.

A knight you were, in your heart

I knew.

I fell in love with your heart,
The pep in your step.

Your enthusiasm,

Your smile.

I fell in love with all of you.

As I spent each day with you,

Sneaking you out-

The risk too great, but my love too strong.

When I told myself I’d marry you,

In that moment I knew

That castle in the sky,

No longer a prison

But our home, our place-

Where I call you my wife.

Where we shall rule our kingdom

No longer afraid

Of those who denied us before.

It’s been many years,

But all those years I spent with you,

I fall in love

Just a little bit more

Each and every day.

Katarina, my love

From Edea, your knight- now your wife

Every day I spend with you

I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

For now this castle

Is our home,

And we will reign

Tomorrow, the next day

For all the many days to come.
