Schoolhouse Shenanigans - Chili

"Come on, baby, you'll be late for school!" His mother called from the base of the stairs. From upstairs, she heard the geode complain.

"Mom! I already told you to not call me that!" Chili yelped, descending the staircase a tad bit grumpily. "I'm not a baby anymore. I'm all grown up." He argued.

"To be, you'll always be my baby boy!" His mother cooed, affectionally patting him in the head. She heard him grumble, but he didn't let out any more complaints.

His mother smiled and adjusted his bangs. She'd already given up trying to make it so they wouldn't fall over one of his eyes - her son wouldn't let her, anyways, saying it made him look 'cooler', and she humored him. But she could, at least, make him look all proper. She hoped he'd be able to make friends.

Venessa loved her child very much, but even she, as a mother, could recognize the veil of unfriendliness and grumpiness that surrounded his personality. She suspected he unconsciously acted that way to disguise his sweety pie personality from the others using a hard-to-crack exterior. He was only a kid, though, and maybe he'd change with time, that she hoped. Chili was very excitable about stuff, and could easily become passionate about some specific interests.

"Are you ready for your first day?" His parent gently smiled.

"Yes!" He nodded, finally letting out a smile. "I'm going to join the sports club!" The young geode said, puffing out his chest in pride.

"Alright, then, my little basketball, let's go." Venessa fondly said with a giggle.

Chili's expectations for his first day of school were as high as the tallest peak of the Ebony Wreath, and nothing would make them soar lower. He excitedly hopped his way into the classroom, located under a low ceiling. The painted walls were adorned with merry paintings and drawings, depicted by childish artstyles, picturing landscapes and happy vespires doing all sorts of activities together.

"Good morning to everylon!" A cheery, adult vespire said, greeting every little geode that came through the door. "Welcome back to school, those of you that already know me. To the little darlings that are new here, my name is Teacher Jade!" She gave out a big grin, waiting for the excited lons to get settled. "You can sit anywhere you'd like, but please stay at your seats and don't be walking around during class time, alright?"

There wasn't really a specific place to sit on or any designated seats, for that matter, since the teachers prefered to let the students have a taste for independency in choosing where they wanted to stay at for the day. They rarely had any trouble regarding that, save from one or other rambunctious child.

The young geodes chattered all over the small classroom, telling each other how their vacations had been, what they'd done for summer, and seeing their colleagues again. Some geodes, a tad bit more timid, kept to themselves, but ended up caught up in conversations with their more extroverted classmates. Amongst the bunch, a few newbie vespires made friends with one another.

Chili picked a place that he favored most, sitting next to a cheery looking, blue vespire with a pink unicorn horn. They contrasted a lot next to each other, the vibrant red and blue from their respective fur colors creating a very colorful view.

"I like your horn, it's pretty." The young red geode blurted out. He had a little bit of difficulty with making new friends, but his mother had said all he needed to do was be kind and corteous, and he'd be surrounded by other geodes in no time. "You've taken on your parent's charisma." She'd said. Chili had not understood that phrase quite enough, but figured it might be a compliment.

Chili would find out she'd been right soon enough.

"Thanks! I like your chest mark as well, it's sick!" The blue geode responded.

"Sick?" Young Chili frantically inquired. "What does that mean? I'm not sick in any way, mom said I'm very healthy!" He argued, his brows twitching in irritation.

The other geode started to laugh, only serving in making Chili even more angry.

"What are you laughing about?" He fumed, his thick tail lashing from one side to another in frustration.

"I like you! I think we'll be the best of friends" The child piped up, still giggling. At that, Chili calmed down a little bit, confused at the other's affirmation.

School times were sweet times, indeed.
